1 Answer

George, If the unit is not sparking on the top burners then yes the most likely cause will be a faulty spark module. Check all the connections to make sure that there are no loose connections and test the ignition switch has continuity in the lite position.

George, you'll need to check or replace the igniter wire harness WB18T10393. It sounds like you have a loose connection at the spark module or a couple of partially grounded igniter wires or connections causing a weak spark.

Ralph, The spark module can cause the GFI to pop and would need to be replaced. The other issue is that the unit should not be hooked up to a GFI and would need to be on a designated circuit with a breaker.

Brendan, If only one of the igniters is sparking on the entire cooktop then yes the spark module will most likely be the issue. If all but one are sparking then you would want to check for the grounded wire or check the spark switch to make sure that it has continuity when it is in the light position. If no continuity then the spark switch is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Rico for Model Number JGS968SH3SS

I have a ge slide in glass top natural gas convection oven . Model JGS968S0H3SS The burners light and work, but the flames are all over the place. They can bit yellow and they grow larger and smaller at times .I would say they is a air fuel problem ? I checked the broiler which we really never use, and it seems to work fine all nice even blue flames . I did check the orficie they were clear but had carbon on them . I would say I still need to check the lower oven burners also. To see if the flames are yellow and larger at times also .

Hello Rico. It sounds like the burners and orifices are dirty and need to be cleaned on the unit. It will cause the issues you are having if they are dirty.

Phil for Model Number ge profile cooktop 30 inch with down draft

After a year of matches and reading the questions about constant sparking, allow me add this to the list of questions before replacing numerous parts that are not bad. I too lean towards the spark module, This is why... All four burners constantly spark. I have had to unplug the unit to make it stop. I removed both burner units completely off the cooktop and when I plug it in all I hear is a constant clicking in the area of the spark module. your thoughts please. thanks

Hello Phil, What you would need to do is to check the ignition switches to make sure that they are good. To check them turn off gas to unit and access the switches. With the switches in the off position check each one for continuity. If there is continuity then you would need to replace the switch. If no continuity through any of the switches then you will want to check wiring for damage that would complete circuit. If this checks ok then replace spark module. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
