The Surface Unit Receptacle is an OEM part for GE cooktops and ranges. It is designed to hold and connect the surface heating element to the cooktop’s electrical system, providing a secure and reliable connection for the element to receive power.

Hello Oilman. According tot he manufacture, you do not need to raise the top at replace the receptacle WB17X5113. You will need to disconnect the power, then remove the element from the cooktop. Next remove the drip bowl and remove the screw (on certain models) securing the receptacle in place. Pull the receptacle out enough to access the wires. Cut the wires to the old receptacle and splice in the new receptacle. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.
