For Ge Refrigerator Dispenser Switch (Part Number: OEM17065971)

Lloyd, Based on the information provided the first thing to check is the temperature at the ice maker assembly. The temperature at the ice maker should be less than 10°F to initiate a cycle. (The normal temps for the freezer/Icemaker area are 0° to 10°F) If the temperature is below the 10°F then the issue would be the icemaker.

Patience please: Original problem waterline in the freezer has on occasion frozen. I do not use ice cube or crushed ice except on rare occasion and they worked. Always able to solve frozen line with hairdryer. Then recently developed defrost cycle going from 40 degrees to zero leaving everything caked in ice. With your help l was able to correctly diagnose, purchase “refrigerator defrost thermostat”, and”refrigerator temperature sensor”, and install same. This corrected my “everything caked in ice” problem. For several weeks everything was fine. The my old “no water dispensing” problem started but this time not a frozen water line. The diagnosis pointed to a “dispenser solenoid dispenser” which with your excellent videos l easily replaced. That not solve problem. Now diagnosis points to “dispenser switch”. Before l order and replace that switch — MY QUESTION what are the resistance measurements so l can see if that really is the problem before l spend another $50. I’m hesitant — 1. Waterline is not frozen and is delivering water with pressure to the waterline union. 2. When l press the water dispenser l can hear solenoid ?? working. YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE! Arthur

Arthur, if water will reach the union at the door, the failure would either be a frozen water line or a pinched water line.

Hello, our water and ice dispenser has been intermittently working. It used to work more, but now it is rare it will dispense water or ice. When the dispenser button is pressed and activated, the light above the water selection turns off and it makes a click sound twice with about a one second gap between clicks. If you continue to press and hold the dispenser button to activate, after the first set of clicks, about 3 seconds later a zero on the left side of temperature control panel will flash on and light above water will flash on at same time, and when they go out the clicks with a one second gap occurs again. This pattern just repeats with no dispensing, and sometimes rarely it will dispense. Also when it sounds like the fridge is running to drop temperature and you press the dispenser button it will stop the fridge from running and it makes the click sounds with one second gap. What faulty part or wires is causing this intermittent problem? Thank you for your time, and assistance!

Dan, Based on the information provided check the connections to the dispenser assembly;y and also check the wires at the hinges for broken or shorted wiring, if wiring and connections are good it would likely be the dispenser board.

Joe, the door chute solenoid would need to be checked to identify if it is sticking in the down position. If it is not, the chute door spring would need to be checked to ensure that it is set properly as the tension from the spring is what allows the door to close properly.

The Auger on my ice make is constantly running with the freezer door closed. When the door is open it stops. No issue with the water dispenser, it works normal. The only resolve was to disconnect power to the auger motor as a temporary fix. I think it is probably the dispenser switch or the control board on the front. I see you don't have the control board in stock but you do have the switch, hoping it is just the switch. Any suggestion on the part I need?

1 Answer

Ragz, Based on the information provided it does indeed sound as if the switch would be the issue.

Chris, as water is able to come through the line that connects to the door, the issue would be a frozen water line in the freezer door. The dispenser tube heater WR49X10173 can be used if the following criteria is met (All metal liner SxS production built January 2003 through January 2007 [serial numbers AF through AM]: Models BSS, DSS, ESH, GSH, GSS, GST, HSS, SSS). If the criteria is not met, then the freezer door WR78X11096 would need to be replaced to correct this issue.

My best guess is that your water valve is sticking open, but it could be a relay on the control board. The best way to check is to see if there is voltage on the water valve solenoid when the water is continuing to run. If you have 120vac then the relay is bad, if no voltage is present then the water valve is bad.

Tom, unfortunately, the manufacturer does not show the water line in the door as being replaceable separately from the door assembly WR78X10883. However, it would be recommended that the freezer evaporator defrost drain is inspected for an ice blockage. If there is an ice blockage, the ice would need to be cleared.

Sandeep, Most likely the dispenser switch has failed. WR23X10783 This part can be tested for continuity and should change from open to closed with the press of the little red button on the switch. There is a great video showing the part replacement for this switch.

Delmar, are you sure you didn't leave the water supply turned off, and the filter is properly installed? Next check the wiring harness and connections at the freezer door hinge to make sure there aren't loose connections or damaged wires. The next check would be to check for the low VDC from the main control board into the dispenser control board and dispenser actuator, with a multimeter. But we will need a proper model number of your refrigerator to check and verify the proper circuits and connections to test.
