The Timer Washer is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It controls the various cycles of the washing machine by regulating the amount of time each phase runs, including filling, agitating, rinsing, and spinning. The timer ensures that the laundry process follows the correct sequence and duration for optimal cleaning performance.

Common causes of a bad timer include electrical issues such as shorts or faulty wiring, wear and tear from extended use, or mechanical failure within the timer mechanism.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The washing machine not advancing through cycles
  • Stuck cycles or skipping phases
  • The washer stopping abruptly during a cycle
  • Inconsistent cycle times or improper functioning of specific wash settings

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Timer Washer (Part Number: OEM14787234)

Hello Moriah. If you can stop the water from entering the machine by turning off the timer or unplugging the unit, you will need to look for a bad pressure hose or replace the pressure switch. If the only way to shut off the water is at the shut off for the water hoses, you will need to replace the water valve in the unit.

Hello John. You need to check the drain hose. It is siphoning out the water in the unit.

John, Check the height of the drain hose and stand pipe. Standard practice is 29 to 30 inches high from the floor. If the drain or hose is less than that, the water can be syphoned out of the tub during the wash cycle. Before the washer can spin, it has to drain the tub empty and the water level switch has to reset. Make sure the drain pump is working and check the water level switch and hose to make sure there is no sediment or debris in the hose/air tube.

John, When you pull the knob out there should be a clip on the back side of the knob that you will pull out to get the knob off.

John, Based on the problem description, it does sound like the timer would be the cause of the failure. You can test at the R16 terminal on the timer to R15 and see if there is power at this point. If there is then the contacts would appear to be sticking causing the drain pump to stay on. Also you could look for any wires that may be shorted to ground in the pump circuit.

Stressedmother, With the issue happening at different points in the cycle and not being consistent then the timer would most likely be the issue.

Paul, There are two possibilities, the timer WH12X10478, there could be a faulty contact inside the timer, not allowing power to the cold water solenoid on the fill have. The water temp. switch WH12X10477 may have a faulty contact to the cold water valve as well. But it is most likely a timer issue.

Hello David, I would first check the pressure sensor and make sure the pressure sensor hose is not crimped or clogged. If this checks out ok, unplug and reconnect each electrical connector to the control at least three times in case corrosion is present. You should also check for fault codes on the LED on the motor. A 10-Flash error on the Motor indicates lost communication. If you see a steady ½ second-ON ½ second-OFF Motor light flash, this indicates a Lid Switch OPEN. A 7-Flash error on the Motor light indicates Lid Switch NOT OPEN.

Felicia, You will want to check the pressure hose and pressure dome on the side of the tub to make sure that there is nothing that would cause it to clog or be restricted. Also check the screens on the inlet hose of the cold water side to ensure that the screen is not clogged by debris. If this checks ok then it would sound like the timer would be the issue.
