The Timer Washer is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It controls the various cycles of the washing machine by regulating the amount of time each phase runs, including filling, agitating, rinsing, and spinning. The timer ensures that the laundry process follows the correct sequence and duration for optimal cleaning performance.

Common causes of a bad timer include electrical issues such as shorts or faulty wiring, wear and tear from extended use, or mechanical failure within the timer mechanism.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The washing machine not advancing through cycles
  • Stuck cycles or skipping phases
  • The washer stopping abruptly during a cycle
  • Inconsistent cycle times or improper functioning of specific wash settings

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Tom, You will want to check for the drain pump being too far down into the drain pipe and check for a slow drain.

Hello Tom, You would want to check to make sure that the pump is not clogged or obstructed to where there is a slow drain. If there is a slow drain or obstructed drain it would cause unit to not spin fast enough. This would not be a timer issue if the drain is clear but would be more of a motor type of issue not spinning at proper speed.

Sue, You probably won't need a timer WH12X10478, Your first check needs to be at the pressure switch WH12X10476 and air tube WH41X365 if theres debris in the tube or a loose connection of faulty circuit in the switch, the air doesn't move in the tube properly and can cause a "short" fill when the washer gets to the rinse cycle. Also check and make sure there are no kinks in the drain hose or debris in the drain pump WH23X10030

Hi. If the pressure switch does not see the empty tub then it will not spin. Momentarily jumper # 7 red/blk wire to the # 15 DK. blu/ white wires together. If it spins now then you need the pressure switch part # WH12X10476. Unless the drain pump part # WH23X10030 is totally clear then it will not spin. Ohm the pump motor resistance is 12 ohms. Make sure the terminal block going to the lid switch is not corroded and the connections are clean and tight. You can use a magnet on top of the lid switch to see if works now. If so then change the lid switch part # WH12X10531. Lift the top and remove the lid top cover. Look in between the inner and the outer tub to see if there are any balled up clothes stopping the inner basket from turning. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Remove the front panel and look at the front of the motor. On top of the motor is a inverter board built onto it. Look in from the front to the flashing green light and count the timing of the flashes. The inverter will operate the motor depending on the need. Thank You.

Hello Brian, Check the drain pump for debris and remove the pump to tub hose from each end. Look up into the holes to insure no obstructions are present. If nothing is found, replace the drain pump. As far as the water running goes, there are only two things that will cause the unit to overfill. One is the water pressure. If the water spigot is turned almost off, it will never close the water valve because the valve is closed by water pressure only. There is no spring in the valve to assist in its' closure so a deficiency of pressure will cause this. The other thing of course is the water inlet valve WH13X23974.

Preston for Model Number glwp2000m0ww

When the washer is turned on it automatically starts agitating instead of filling with water then agitating. Both water sources are on, and the screens are not clogged at all. So basically it just doesnt fill with water at all? Im mechanically inclined so I can fix it I just dont know if I would be ordering the right part or not. From what I've read it sounds like the timer, but I'm no washer repair man. So if anyone has a better idea, it would be greatly appreciated ?

Hello Preston. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the pressure switch WH12X10476 may be bad in the unit and will need to be replaced. Test the contact points on the pressure switch and see if the YR reads closed for continuity across number 16. If so, the switch is bad and will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
