The Timer is an OEM part for GE dryers. It is responsible for controlling the duration of the drying cycles by regulating the flow of electricity to the heating element and the motor. The timer ensures that clothes are dried for the correct amount of time, based on the selected cycle.

Causes of a bad timer can include electrical failures, wear and tear from frequent use, or internal mechanical issues. A faulty timer can result in improper drying times, which may affect the performance and efficiency of the dryer.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • Dryer not starting or stopping at the correct times
  • Dryer running continuously or not advancing through cycles
  • Inconsistent drying results
  • No clicking sound from the timer during operation

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Greg R. for Model Number DRSR483GG1WW

Hello: I want to be able to replace my timer (Part #AP5805478) on my GE Dryer (Model #DRSR483GG1WW) since the plastic shaft finally broke on it from using a pair of pliers for months. Could you kindly give me a tip on how to remove it from the dryer? I don't see any screws and I've tried to really push down on it a clockwise motion based on the way it's mounted, but it doesn't budge. I really hope to hear back from you soon. Signed, Not too handy.

Greg, It's not going to be too difficult, First thing, remove power to the dryer. Then Remove the four screws holding the top of the control panel to the top console. Pull the top of the console towards you, you may have to move the control panel in a side to side motion to release the bottom tabs that hold the panel to the dryer top panel. Once you have the console released and laid down on the top of the dryer, you'll need a small flat blade screw driver to release the two metal tabs from the console support plate and turn the timer in a counter clockwise direction and remove the timer. Label or mark all the wires on the timer, before you disconnect them. Place the new timer in the console, turn it clockwise to lock the timer retainer clips in place, then attach the wires to the appropriate terminals. Reverse the procedure, install the timer knob and test the dryer for operation.

Eileen, You will need to pull the timer knob straight off, there will be screws on the control panel to remove in order to pull the control panel out. Once the control panel is access you remove the old timer and install the new. We do not have printed instructions for this.

Hello Chris, You could use a piggy back terminal to connect the two brown wires to the C terminal on the timer or put a joint spade on the wires for the terminal.

Hello Paul, This is not difficult at all. The important thing to remember is when you get the old timer loose from the machine, hold the new timer next to it and move one wire at a time from the old timer to the new one. This prevents you from looking for a wiring diagram and trying to figure out how to wire the timer with a handful of wires hanging loose. Other than that, the timer change out is a basic repair.
