The Mesh Filter Assembly is an OEM part for LG dishwashers. It is responsible for trapping food particles and debris during the wash cycle, preventing them from recirculating and ensuring clean dishes. This filter maintains the efficiency and performance of the dishwasher by keeping the water clean and free of contaminants.

Over time, the mesh filter can become clogged with food particles, grease, and other debris, reducing its effectiveness. Physical damage or wear and tear from regular use can also compromise its functionality, leading to poor cleaning results and potential blockages in the dishwasher.

Symptoms of a bad mesh filter assembly include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Water not draining correctly
  • Unpleasant odors coming from the dishwasher
  • Visible debris in the wash water

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Ruth, the filter assembly should last quite a while under optimal conditions. However, due to the many variables that are involved with an appliance, this can last as long as conditions allow and even a general life span could not be accurately given. With this in mind, this part could last several years, or several months depending on the conditions applied.

Leslie, the manufacturer recommends that the unit be ran through a quick cycle with detergent and no dishes. If that does not improve the issue, then run a quick cycle with 2 cups placed in the lower rack and filled with white distilled vinegar. If that does not clear the filter, then the filter can be removed by removing the spray arm and the screws that secure it to the base. From there, you can use white vinegar and a soft brush to gently clean the filter.

Hello Charlie. Yes, dirty or bad filters can cause this issue. Also, not getting the water hot at your sink before a cycle can cause it as well. Thank you.

Hello Vince, This is sometimes caused by a clogged screen but the drain pump is the usual cause. If the filter doesn't appear to be clogged, it is probably the pump EAU61383518. The impellers will break and/or separate from the motor shaft.
