Thomas B Madison , WI April 02, 2016 Appliance: LG Dishwasher LDF6920ST Poor cleaning of dishes I replaced the filter cartridge that is located underneath the lower spray arm. The original filter cartridge had become completely blinded off, the filter media is a very fine mesh nylon fabric and it gets clogged up eventually with hard water scale and other non-soluble materials (including dishwasher detergent). When this filter gets plugged, too little water flows through to the pump to be recirculated during washing. Replacement is relatively easy, except for the awkward position of your body (kneeling on the floor reaching into the bottom of the dishwasher. The lower spray arm is removed by just pulling up on it, it just snaps into place. The filter cartridge is held in place by 11 screws (!!) of three difference sizes, so keep track of what size screw goes in which location. The cartridge forms the upper half of the pump housing, so the impeller will be exposed when the cartridge is removed. There is a rubber gasket between the lower pump housing and the filter cartridge that will come off when you remove the cartridge. This should be re-seated on the lower pump housing before the new cartridge is installed. The only tool needed for replacement is a phillips screwdriver. Tom B Perrysburg , OH October 12, 2015 Appliance: LG Dishwasher LDS4821BB Horrible smell from lg dishwasher This filter just captured all the junk in the bottom of my LG dishwasher. There is no cleaning or servicing this thing. You need to replace it. There is NO NEED to pull out the dishwasher. All can be done through the door. Remove the racks. Remove the rotating arm on the bottom (2 screws under the arm). Remove the single screw (on the bottom) holding the tube that goes up the back of the washer. The tube has two clips that need to be spread apart to get the tube completely out of the washer. Remove the 8 screws that go through the filter and lift out the filter. Beware there is a small squarish part on the bottom of the filter with a rubber flap valve. Note how this goes on to correctly reinstall the filter. Below this is the pump and there is a gasket there also which I replaced (cheap and easy). Clean, clean, clean the bottom area where the heater is and all removed parts. Cleaning took an hour in itself. Install the filter and reverse the process. Read More... 51 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Screwdrivers
Craig M Blaine , WA April 11, 2017 Fine particles on the dishes I removed the filter assembly and replaced it with a new one. Its was a simple matter of gently popping off the bottom washer arm. Next I removed the visible screws, then rotated the piping that goes up the back (to get it out of the way). That made removing the entire filter assembly very simple. Dropped in the new filter assembly and re-installed. Read More... 34 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
Christopher L Walnut Creek , CA February 24, 2015 Appliance: Model LG 3850DD3006M 0e drainage error code So all of a sudden the dishwasher stops working, "0E error"on the panel. Did some google searches and found that it might be the filter, which I did not know needed to be changed, or worse, the motor. Took the filter off per online tutorial (easy) and mopped up all the stagnant water. Poking around, I find the small rubber check valve that has broken. Had to fish it out with tweezers. Long story short, it was not the motor and I doubt it was the filter. It was this $1.87 rubber drainage check valve. Washer works as good as new. Mark F San Carlos , CA February 02, 2020 Appliance: LG Dishwasher LDS4821ST Top spray arm not spinning in lg dishwasher I replaced the upper nozzle guide, nozzle shaft and upper spray arm. I also replaced the pump gasket for good measure. Top rack dishes had not been cleaning properly. I first removed the filter assembly to inspect the main pump from above. It was clogged but after cleaning and reassembly I observed that while middle and bottom spray arms were changing position, the upper spray arm was not. I confirmed that water was flowing through the upper spray arm by placing some empty yogurt pots on a baking tray on the top rack. The ones underneath the spray arm filled up. I tried cleaning the spray arm by removing it and flushing it with water but that didn't help. When spinning the upper arm by hand it tended to stop after a few turns so I wondered if the shaft had worn down and was creating too much friction for the nozzle to turn. So I ordered replacement upper nozzle guide, shaft and spray arm and tried them out. On the same order, I took the opportunity to replace the filter assembly (still a little clogged), the pump gasket (showing signs of wear) and some broken dish rack rollers. After replacing all those parts, the upper spray arm was back to working order. Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours Tools: Screwdrivers
