Hello Gail, This is most likely an icemaker mold heater issue. Without the model number I cannot verify the part number but replacing the icemaker will correct this issue.

Kay R for Model Number LG Top Freezer Refrigerator Model LTC22350

Our refrigerator is less than 3 years old. Since we were moving it to install new cabinets and countertops, we had a new valve (Oatey water hammer arrester valve) installed. After we moved it back into place and turned it back on, water filled the ice bin and kept flowing. We noticed it when it started coming down the door. It's seems too coincidental for the ice machine to break just at this moment. Your thoughts?

Kay, It sounds like either the icemaker assembly has hung up during the fill or the more likely issue would be the water valve stuck open and allowed this issue to occur.

Ice maker gets cold. Makes ice and will dump it if I manually fill it up. Once in a while it will make it on its own but the ice cubes are small. Unit has new water inlet valve ,filter ,tubing (tubing in back had to be replaced from the filter housing to the water inlet valve) . What could be causing the maker not to fill up. I would here it click to engage the fill but no water goes into the maker and there is no water leak on the floor or in the fridge.

Hello Doug. You need to check and see if the fill tube is froze for the icemaker. If so, it will prevent the unit from filling with water.

Hello DJ. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Betty. If the auger motor runs and the ice crushes and comes into the chute, but does not come out, it sounds like the solenoid for the flapper is bad and is not opening the flapper on the unit. Check and see if the solenoid is bad and if so, replace the solenoid on the unit.

Quentin M for Model Number Mod # LFC21770ST/o5 S/N: 908KRJU00148 LG French door refrigerator. Stainless steel model.

Problem: Trouble with ice maker. It is cold and seems capable of producing ice. For some time now, ice production and dumping into storage tray has been eratic in operation. Some times I can feel the rotating trays are in an upside down position. Sometimes shut off arm seems rigid. Pressing a small button on the bottom (very difficult to see), will cause the ice tray to rotate back in the refill position. Sometimes I get ice, sometimes I get a loud clicking sound and by feeling the ice tray, it seems to be trying to rotate, but can't. It will stop clicking after 24 plus clicks. It will make ice, I believe if the mechanism will position correctly to fill tray. Then will dump the tray after the water is frozen. I can't see what the small button on the underside of the tray mechanish to see what is it's function (nothing in my data book on it). Some times the "shut-off" arm is free to move and sometimes not. This is a 3 door French type stainless steel unit. Of course the ice mechanism is in the bottom space (freezer part). Appreciate any help you might offer.

Quentin, This situation sounds like the icemaker is the problem and would need to be replaced. When you are hearing the clicking, that is when the icemaker is trying to eject the ice but the heater is not coming on properly and causing it to force the ice out. The part number for the icemaker for your unit is part 5989JA0002A
