Symptoms of a bad Ice Dispenser Door Motor include:

  • The dispenser door not opening or closing properly,
  • Ice not being dispensed when activated,
  • Unusual noises coming from the dispenser mechanism.

Causes of ice dispenser door motor failure can include electrical issues such as shorts or wiring problems, mechanical wear over time, or blockages that strain the motor.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Ice Dispenser Door Motor (Part Number: OEM17038941)

1 Answer

Tim, if the unit will dispense cubed ice when crushed ice is selected, the failure would likely be in the display control EBR65768601. If no ice is dispensed, the auger motor would need to be tested for incoming voltage. If there is not voltage, the dispenser control ABQ72940002 has failed. If there is voltage, the auger motor EAU60784204 has failed.

Kenneth, Check to make sure it does not have any screws from the dispenser area and then using a thin putty knife you would just snap it out.

Dian, With the freezer icemaker not making ice, the freezer temperature would not be cold enough. The temperature has to get between 0 and 5 degrees to make ice properly. Check for fan operation, defrost type of issue as being possible causes of this issue

Michael M for Model Number Kenmore Elite 79572053118

I successfully replaced the ice dispenser door motor, however the little arm at the end of the motor that extends in and out keeps slipping off the "rotating arm piece" (sorry, don't know the name). It's almost like the end of the motor arm is not long enough to make good contact. Is there some adapter or way to improve this contact? It will work for awhile, then it will slip off. I can still hear the motor actuating in and out but the door doesn't open. Just keeps slipping off.

1 Answer

Michael, If the arm is not long enough, it sounds like the issue may be that the ice door ABN72938902 is needing to be replaced as the arm may have broken off.

Jim, the video shows that the part was in a different state but if yours is in that is not an issue you still install it as shown in the video making sure things line up. It will still function as needed and is not a defect.
