The Interlock Door Switch is an OEM part for LG microwaves. It is a safety component located on the door of the microwave designed to prevent the microwave from operating unless the door is securely closed. The interlock door switch works with the microwave's electronic control board to sense when the door is open or closed and allow or disallow operation accordingly.

Causes of a bad interlock door switch can include normal wear and tear from repeated opening and closing of the microwave door over time.

Symptoms of a bad interlock door switch include:

  • The microwave runs or heats with the door open
  • Error codes or diagnostic messages related to door sensors on the control board
  • The microwave fails to operate even when the door is securely closed

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Sears/Kenmore microwaves.

Our 4 year old Kenmore microwave won't turn on. We set the cook time and hit "start," but the turntable doesn't turn and the microwave doesn't heat. The clock counts down, and I think the interior light goes on, but that's it -- no heating/cooking. From reading on this website, I see others remedied this problem by replacing door switches. I see there are at least 2 switches listed. My questions are: (1) which switches do I need to purchase and how many of each, (2) do I need a torx bit or other special tool to get into the panel (some customers talk about needing a certain tool) and (3) does this repair require discharging the capacitor? Thanks very much!

Judy, With the unit heating just with the door closed and not being turned to on then the issue will either be a shorted neutral wire that is touching ground or the issue is a faulty control board.
