Jerry Preachers March 20, 2021 for Model Number MCO165UB My mw started making a noise and could smell electrical smoke. no one was operating it I unplugged it and found it to be very hot so I took it down. opened it up and the hv transformer was hot as well as the magnitron. upon furthur inspection I found the terminals attached to the t-stat or the thermostate had melted the ends. red wire on one side and red and black on other. so I'm assuming the t stat or thermostate went bad. unless there is a switch to take energy from it. could you tell me which part this is?
1 Answer Jerry, If the thermostat is located on the magnetron then this will be the mag thermostat 3518903800 which has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. Read More...
Dave March 24, 2016 for Model Number MCO165UB My microwave powers up lights come on turntable spins but no heat. I think I need part# 3518906800. I can see two thermostats on the bottom of the mic with one obviously damaged am I correct
Howard Allen January 03, 2016 for Model Number Magic Chef MCO160UW Hi, Microwave went black, like it is unplugged, after the fan turned on by itself while cooking on the stove (not the micro). After the fan turned off the oven was dead. I have checked the two T-Stats in the base of the cabinet and the fuse in the AC power supply. The fuse is good, both T-stats are OPEN as checked with VOM. I think one of them is bad according to stories on your website here, but you don't say which one is supposed to be normally open and which one is supposed to be normally closed. Please describe by terminal size, the small terminal one is closest to the end panel, the large terminal one is closer to the oven interior. I am getting no voltage to the control panel circuit DC supply so am assuming this is the problem.
1 Answer Howard, The thermostat 3518906800 is the bottom cavity thermostat and should read Normally closed. The thermostat 3518905500 is the fan thermostat. Unfortunately we do not have a diagram that will show which one is where on the unit. Read More...
Chester November 16, 2015 for Model Number MCO165UB Is the vent thermostat normally closed? Do you have a replacement part number?
1 Answer Hello Chester, This can be 3518905500 or 3518906800. The new Magic Chef does not have good illustrations or parts explosions. These are two thermostats that are most likely to be the ones in the bottom of the unit. Read More...
Johnny V. September 24, 2014 for Model Number MCO153S When a cook operation is started, the oven emits a deep groan and, within about 1-2 seconds, the line fuse blows and the oven goes dead. Discharge the capacitor and install new fuse and do the same. All other like lamp, extractor vent and display works fine except for the cook operation.
1 Answer Hello Johnny, This unit has a short and the high amperage draw is blowing the fuse. Normally when the fuse blows after a short time, the issue is in the high voltage transformer or the magnetron. They should be tested for shorts to ground. If no problem is located, continue looking for a connection that is shorted to ground and be sure to test the door switches since they can cause an issue if one is welded in the closed position. George June 07, 2014 for Model Number MCO165UB My Micro Wave ran hot one day and stopped operating completely. I replaced the blown ceramic fuse, now everything operates, except for heat, I have checked thermostats A25, A27, and A40 and all check okay. I cannot find thermostat A43. I am hoping that it is the defective component.. Can you possibly lead me in the right direction? Thank you for your time and cooperation.
1 Answer Hello George. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. Read More...
Dixie May 26, 2014 for Model Number MCO165UB Is there a ceramic fuse on this particular microwave? I can't find one. Nothing is turning on and I want to change the fuses and thermostat before I give up and buy a new one. I'm going to place my order for the other parts and want to get a ceramic fuse too if there is one. If there is can you tell me where else I should look besides behind the front panel?
1 Answer Hello Dixie, The unit has a fuse 5F1CD2031S and a cavity thermostat 3518906310 that should be checked. The fuse is in the noise filter 3518608000. Read More...
Fred December 12, 2013 for Model Number MCO160uw Hi I am looking for a THERMAL CUT OUT (T.C.O) for mu magic chef over the stove microwave. I did not know if you have it and what is the part #. Thanks Fred
