Hello Karen. You will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Marta, The main control board will be located at the back of the unit and behind the cover at the bottom of the unit. On the right side will be a plastic box that would house the control board.

Robin, You will want to check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils. If there is very little frost pattern or non at all with the compressor running then this would be a sealed system issue and would require service.

Nick for Model Number 40141003010 Kenmore elite side by side fridge

My refrigerator will not cool either refrigerator or freezer. A tech supposedly replaced the control board and then said it went bad again. He said he had heard a relay clicking on and off and that he thinks that's what killed the control board. The compressor does run but the evaporator barely cools at all. I don't think it has a leak but that the compressor is only running at an idle rate. The only relay I can find is the one on the compressor. I don't want to replace the control board again just for it to go bad again. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hello Nick, If there is good air flow inside the unit, I would check the pressures in the sealed system since there should be a good frost pattern with the compressor running.

Mary-Ann, Yes, that part has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The manufacturer no longer sells the part. We can no longer get it from any of our suppliers and there is no substitute for the part available to us, and we don’t know of any other source for the part. You may want to try contacting local parts dealers, one of them might still have it in stock. Enter your part number in a search engine, a smaller company might have it. Try eBay, Amazon or similar sites, search by using the manufacturers part number. Try a used appliance store, sometimes they have the same model or a useable part for your machine. Lastly, Contact refurbishing companies, especially for circuit boards: www.circuitboardmedics.com, www.corecentricsolutions.com, to see if they have a program to remanufacture your control board. Thanks,

Kenney, There is a thermistor on the evaporator coil that you will want to test resistance of. The resistance should be 5K ohms at 77 degrees and if it is not correct then would need to replace the thermistor. If this checks ok then the main control board would be the likely issue.

David, You will want to check to make sure that the fan in the freezer is working. If it is not then test to see if there is 12 vdc getting to the fan motor. If there is then the fan motor will be faulty and needs to be replaced.

Bob for Model Number RM257ABSH/XAA

My display board is missing some of the digits I lost everything. I checked the voltage at compressor it was 168 on both legs .It doesn't seem to be a compressor issue, I contacted Samsung for repair. What a joke. Still waiting, so now I'm surfing the web to try to repair myself. When the repair place did contact me, she mentioned it probably wasn't the compressor, since the display was all goofed up and most likely the main board. After investigating further, the fan is running to the right of the compressor. Is this more of a start relay issue? Invertor board or main board? I have 3 boards. And is a new display board needing replacing? Thanks

1 Answer

Bob, With the display showing only partial lines then this would most likely be a display board causing this. You will want to check to see if the compressor is running. If it is not then it would be more likely that the issue is with the inverter board.
