The Actuator Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool trash compactors. This part activates the compaction cycle when the trash compactor's door is shut and locked, ensuring the unit operates safely and effectively. The actuator switch signals the control system to start the compaction process, an essential step in reducing the volume of waste.

Causes of a malfunctioning actuator switch can include prolonged use leading to mechanical wear, electrical failures within the switch itself, or misalignment issues with the compactor's door.

Symptoms of a bad Actuator Switch Kit include:

  • The compactor fails to start the compaction cycle
  • The system starts only intermittently or not at all
  • Unexpected halting of the compaction process
  • The need to manually engage or adjust the switch to start the cycle

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Dan, The tan wire will go on one side and the black would go to the other. Since it is only a 2 terminal switch then it will not matter which goes to which side.

Miriam for Model Number NA

Hello I ordered and have correct replacement part W10342596 I found instructions online but no template: Do you have access to template please it was not included, Starting in the second quarter, compactors went to a new integrated switching redesign. The switch has changed from a normally open switch to a normally closed switch that is held open by a new actuator lever. Replacement parts for the old switch will sub to a kit that contains: a normally closed switch, an actuator assembly, toe guard, a template, two screws and an instruction sheet. Thank you

Miriam, We do not have just the template for the kit. If your kit did not have the template then you would need to get another kit.

Jim, You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing caught under the foot pedal and check the linkage to make sure that the linkage is not bad. Also check to make sure that the unit is in square and leveled properly.

Alan, That's one of the reasons the actuator assembly was redesigned, and substituted to the Switch Actuator kit. Due to the changes, the parts are not interchangeable if memory serves well, But it's not that difficult to repair, and of course the kit comes with illustrated instructions and all the information needed.

Hello Joe. With it being a kit, it can require some modification to the unit. It should last longer than the original one for the unit.

Jerry for Model Number kucs03ftss0

I need to replace a metal plate that broke that makes contact to turn on and off the compactor. I understand that the part is now called an off - switch actuator. The old part number I think is 9871976. It does not look at all like the picture you show. Is this a replacement of a simple metal plate that looks like a door striker? I need help. I can not see paying this much money for a plate. I do not need a kit. I am not sure a kit will fit. It is help together by two screws. the size is 1/2" X 2". Thanks

Jerry, The old part number 9871976 has been changed by the manufacturer to the kit part number W10342596 and will work for your unit. This was a manufacturers change and the metal piece cannot be gotten by itself.

Hello Greg, We do not have a diagram to show how actuator would be installed. The Actuator is held in by 2 screws and they both mount the same way.
