Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Terminal Block (Part Number: OEM18042330)

Rae, With having already replace the oven sensors and everything else working you will want to check the wiring between the sensor and control board. If this checks ok then the issue will be in the control board.

PM, With the power cord having a ground on it then you would remove the grounding strap from the terminal block.

Hello Kurt. Where the wiring harness goes into the burner box, it attaches to the terminal block in the unit. You need to make sure there is 240 there and nothing is damaged.

Hello Cole, The strap is removed for the four prong cord but if was present, it should be reconnected for re-installation of the three prong cord for electrical shock protection. If WP9761958 looks like your terminal block, it may work. Since there was no model number in your post, we have no way to verify.

Michael

I purchased the part because the original terminal block that was installed on the range melted and failed. The same thing happened to the replacement part purchased from Appliancepartspros.com earlier last week. I have photos of the terminal block in its melted state If you would like to see them. I'm wondering what could be the cause of the catastrophic and dangerous problem. I bought a replacement yet again from your website and had my brother, a master electrician, install the new part. He thinks that the bolts that secure the wires to the block do not sufficiently tighten which cause increased resistance, thus causing heat and melting. Have you ever had any other problems with this part #? I am concerned about a potential fire hazard from this part.

Hello Michael. The reason for this failure is not getting the nuts tight and the wires become loose and arc. You need to make sure the nuts are tight on the unit. If not, it will arc and melt the terminal block. Also, make sure none of the wires attaching to the block have any burnt places on them. If they do, replace them also.

Hello Greg. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like you will just need to order and replace the control board on the unit. Just make sure not hot wires are touching metal to short out on the unit.

Hi Annette. If the wire eyelets and all can be cleaned off with a wire brush and are all intact, then you should be OK. You can quickly tell if the cord is OK by looking at the plug end and see if they are burnt'. If so then you need to replace the cord. The terminal block needs to have 6 - 3/8 nuts so when you stack the wires onto the studs you use the first one to tighten the assy. down. Then you use the top nut to lock the nut tight onto the assy. This way it does not loosen up under the natural movement of the life. Make sure as you use the cord clamp you have some slack towards the terminal block so the wires are not tight. Terminal block part # WP9761958. Nuts part # WP112432. Make sure the house supply outlet is tight. You will need a qualified electrician to check this out. It may be best to remove power and replace it anyway. Thank You.
