The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for helping the compressor motor start and run efficiently by providing an extra electrical boost. This component ensures that the refrigerator operates smoothly and maintains the correct temperature by stabilizing the compressor's performance.

Causes of a bad run capacitor can include electrical surges, age-related wear, or overheating. When the capacitor fails, the compressor may struggle to start or run continuously, leading to inefficient cooling or a non-functional refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or running intermittently
  • Unusual clicking noises from the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Teresa, The run capacitor WP65889-4 could be the issue, but it's more likely to be a problem in the start relay/start device W10613606. The replacement part will have both parts needed to start and run the compressor. If the noise still persists and there is no cooling, you'll need to have a servicer test and replace the compressor.

Hello Lucien. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the control board. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html If all of that is good, then you will need to check the damper in the unit and see if it is bad and not opening.
