The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for helping the compressor motor start and run efficiently by providing an extra electrical boost. This component ensures that the refrigerator operates smoothly and maintains the correct temperature by stabilizing the compressor's performance.

Causes of a bad run capacitor can include electrical surges, age-related wear, or overheating. When the capacitor fails, the compressor may struggle to start or run continuously, leading to inefficient cooling or a non-functional refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or running intermittently
  • Unusual clicking noises from the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Run Capacitor (Part Number: OEM18030570)

Stephen for Model Number TX21VW MFG NO P1315905WW

Had a issue of fridge and freezer intermitently warming up cleaned condensor coils and it started working fine again then a week or 2 later it started giving me problem I checked the defrost circuit and when I moved the defrost thermostat it started working again so I replaced it. Then it started working yet again had the temps all th way to 7 both fridge and freezer. When I put 4 ice cub trays in would freeze them fine tried 6 and it took forever and temp raised up again. now the temp is raising again the evaporator and condenser fan are on but the compressor was not turning on. I turned the defrost timer into and out of defrost and still didn't kick on. Then I moved the temp controls fridge didnt turn fans off but the freezer turned fans off and on. But the compressor still didn't turn on it turned on after about 5 mins. I didn't hear the relay kick in. Turned the defrost timer in and out of defrost again turned compressor and fans off when came out turned fans on but not compressor can. The defrost timer turn the fans on and not the compressor? Or would it be the run or start relays? Do those just pertain to the compressor? Or can it be a issue with the temp sensors? Not reading correctly. Do you have wiring schematics anyplace to run down the power output from the temp controls defrost timers to compseer or relays? I am a mechanic and can check the stuff if I have the schematics unless you have some ideas. Unless I have more info I do not know what to check next. ty

Stephen, This issue sounds more like a start relay that has is not operating properly. When the condenser fan motor is running but the compressor is not then you would check for 120 vac going to the compressor. If there is 120 vac then the most likely cause is the relay. Unfortunately we do not have a wiring diagram for this model.

Hello Karen. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Marshall, This sounds like you have a bad electrical connection. Try the unit in a different outlet using an appliance extension cord. If this doesn't produce favorable results, the unit will have to be troubleshot using a test meter to locate the poor connection.

Dean, When you notice that the unit is not cooling, check the defrost timer and give it a little turn to see if the unit comes back on. If it does then your timer is sticking and would need to be replaced.

Hello Chanel, This is a bad start relay. It could be caused by a bad compressor but there is no way to determine that without replacing the start relay 12002794. Most of the time the start relay will correct the issue.
