The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for helping the compressor motor start and run efficiently by providing an extra electrical boost. This component ensures that the refrigerator operates smoothly and maintains the correct temperature by stabilizing the compressor's performance.

Causes of a bad run capacitor can include electrical surges, age-related wear, or overheating. When the capacitor fails, the compressor may struggle to start or run continuously, leading to inefficient cooling or a non-functional refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not starting or running intermittently
  • Unusual clicking noises from the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Bc. If there is power to the lights, but no power to the compressor, you will need to check and see if the unit is stuck in defrost. If so, you will need to replace the defrost control board 61005988. If not, the temperature control may be bad, or there could be a burnt or broke wire on the unit. Hope this helps.

Joe G. for Model Number MSD2458GEB

10 year old side-by-side Maytag. Compressor is constantly running and fridge/freezer warm so I had a technician come. He charged the system with freon ($150) and did nothing else. Since then the freezer is cold, mid setting and temp is near 0 degrees F. The fridge side however is around 44. My biggest concern is that the compressor has been constantly running and won't shut off (4 days now). I've adjusted the freezer and fridge settings a couple of time to try and get them where they should be (fridge @37deg, frez @ 0). Any thoughts?

Hi Joe. The auto damper assy. part # WP61005991 opens to allow the freezer air in. It comes in an assy already installed in its mount bracket. You will need to transfer old parts onto this housing. You immediately can remove the lower control cover and unscrew the damper off the mount. Then find a way to open this damper door @ approx. 50 % until you get the new part to get you back to more normal fresh food temperatures. Thank You.

Hi Mary. You may just need to replace the comp. relay assy. If you remove power and remove the relay. Mark all wires disconnected, for ease of reassembly. Shake the relay, is it noisey? If so you need to replace it , Part # 8201786. If not then you will need to replace the compressor part # W10309990. Thank You.

Rob for Model Number Kitchen Aid KBFA25ERSS01

6 year old refidgerator that recently made a crackling electrical burn up noise along w/ the smell of electrical parts being fried. Since then refrigerator is way too cold to the point of freezing stuff. Temp is set @ 38 degrees as per recommendation by Kitchen aid. Get readings as low as 20 degrees w/ pocket thermometer even when fridge says 38. Called repairman in and his diagnosis was a bad thermistor and temperature computer??? Is diagnosis correct? I found the thermistor in the parts section for this fridge but not a temp. computer. What would that be? Freezer seems to be fine although he said that was running colder than it should be as well. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hello Rob. The temperature control board is the electronic control board WP12782036SP. If the thermistor and control board is bad, the unit does not maintain proper temperature. Hope this helps.
