Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Run Capacitor (Part Number: OEM18071040)

Dino, if the compressor is running and the refrigerator is not cooling, you have either a sealed system leak or a bad compressor. The clicking noise was the compressor trying to start but it was drawing too many amps and the safety device built into the compressor would not let it start. To replace the compressor, you would need an licensed technician to perform the work.

Jim, the replacement part should not be an issue, if the compressor will not start, more than likely the start device is going to be the problem and not the capacitor.

Chris for Model Number MFI2670XEW6

I've ordered Control-AP6016813 and Capacitor-WPW10662129. I have installed a new icemaker assembly. When I check resistance at points on the front of the icemaker, they are not what I'm told they should be eg; L & H mold htr-72 ohms/mine is 52, L & M timer motor-300-4400 ohms/mine is 6.1K, V & N water valve test points-150-350 ohms/mine is 182 ohms. I have good voltage. These are the same readings I got with the previous new icemaker as well. My icemaker/bin is 18 deg F and won't go any lower, my refer is 41 deg F and won't go any lower (to the recommended 38 deg F). My bottom freezer drawer won't go lower than 7 deg F (not to the recommended 0 deg F). I've read the icemaker (2" cubes) should be at 0 deg F...mine won't get there....what controls this temp? On my door, I have 38 set for the refer and 0 set for the freezer, but not reaching those marks. Also, just replaced a new seal on the freezer door. A lot of requests...thanks for your input/professionalism. Chris

Chris, I think our biggest concern would be the temps because the ice maker won't cycle at that temperature. The first thing to check would be condenser coils and clean if dirty or clogged. Second would be condenser fan and make sure it's running.

Lester, Yes, you can use the 210 VAC capacitor on your refrigerator, and still be within the tolerances for the compressor . The WPW10662129 / 2264017 Run Capacitor would be the correct part to order. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,

Linda, You will want to make sure that the condenser coils are clean. If the coils are clean, then make sure that the condenser fan motor is running. This issue could be that the compressor is overheating and shutting down which will most likely be caused by one of these 2 things.

Hello Steve, This is most likely the start device WP2225785 on the compressor. This could be this part beginning to fail. You should make sure the sound is coming from the rear of the unit before ordering this part since it is in the machine compartment at the bottom rear of the refrigerator. If this part goes completely out, the unit will not cool at all, but will make the loud clicking sound every 3 to 5 minutes.
