  • Switches relays/triacs to deliver power to motors, pumps, valves, heaters, or fans as required
  • Monitors feedback to advance timing and protect components from faults
  • Failure may present as: won't start, unresponsive controls/display, stops mid-cycle, erratic operation, or error codes/beeping
Includes: One electronic control board
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; verify no voltage present
  • Use ESD precautions; handle the board by its edges and avoid touching components
  • Photograph/label wiring; move connectors to the new board one at a time until fully seated
  • On some models, run any required diagnostics or calibration per the unit's tech sheet after installation

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18045561)

1 Answer

Hello Robert, that fault code F2.Q1, refers to "User interface board (UIB) is not reading keypad inputs". If some liquid cleaner seeped into the control panel it may/may not have damaged the control panel board, usually given a chance to dry out the control panel will again respond correctly, if not then the door assembly would need to be removed and disassembled to locate the faulty part. The entire door assembly is also available as part W10283390.

Paul K. for Model Number KHHC2090SSS0

My KitchenAid Convection Microwave hood has been a problem child over the years. Phantom key strokes and beeping over the years. Keypad now freezes and can't use with Error code F2.Q1. I have to cycle the power, sometimes many times because code F9. Q often displays when I plug it back in. Please advise which part is to be replaced Touchpad wpw100116267 or Circuit board WPW10391280 since they both have the same generic description. Trying to limp along until Kitchen remodel late 2018 or 2019, But the $$ are adding up. Also on an unrelated topic, I recently purchases a new turntable motor from you. I repaired it and it works well now, thank you. However, immediately after the repair, my exhaust fan stopped working properly. It will only blow at a very low speed. Lights still work fine. I traded one problem for another, Suggested problem? Worth fixing?

Hello Paul, This fault code indicates the main board is not reading the keypad inputs. As per the tech sheet, you should perform the following in the order listedd to correct the issue: 1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power. 2. Replace the user interface board (UIB). 3. Replace the door control assembly. 4. Replace all parts and panels before operating. 5. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

Bob for Model Number KHHC2090SWH-1

My Kitchenaid KHHC2090SWH-1 microwave was getting an error of: ERROR: Code - F9.Q Please call for service. (Touch Communication) ... so I replaced the Whirlpool Electronic Control Board AP6015184 (WPW10116267). For the first day it worked fine but it has begun to sporadically behave with the menu changing without it being touched, menu not responding to touch at all, fan coming on in the middle of the night, light/fan buttons not responding and occasionally reproducing the original F9.Q error. I have been able to get it to reset by flipping the circuit breaker as I found in another forum online but this part seems to be behaving the same as the original. Is there a different part I should have replaced to resolve the F9.Q error? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Bob, This issue would be caused by a ribbon harness connection for the touch pad or a issue with the user interface on the door.

John F for Model Number Kitchenaid Microwave KHHN2090SSS-2

My problem is exactly the same that has been ask before: "We have been having problems with random operation control issues and microwave turning on fan and lights when not used. Always has reset when unpluged. Finally got an error code and microwave will not reset and keyboard not working. Error code F9-Q Touch Communication. I'm about to order a new control board from you and just thought I would double check. Phillip for Model Number KHHN2090SSS-2" Your response was to replace the keypad or control panel. That is what I did. Now the keypad lights up and ask do I want to set the time. The keypad will not work even if I reset it, but the light and fan are working properly and the beeping has stopped. Any ideas what to try next.. Thanks John

John, If you are not getting any response with the keypad then the issue would be in the control board.
