Hello Steve. These are about a 4. Not real hard to do. You will need to disconnect the power to the unit. Then remove the screws securing the inner door panel. Remove the inner door panel and remove the cover off the control board. Remove the ribbon cable from the control board and remove the screws holding the control board housing in place. Next remove the screws holding the control panel in place. Reinstall with the new control panel in reverse order.

The 'glass xpress' LED is flashing fast. I did the diagnostic test. I think it is the main circuit board is bad. If I turn off the breaker and turn it back on after an hour, it doesn't blink initially but then resumes blinking. I have had many electronic issues with this thing in the past including several TCO's. Can you confirm what my issue is this time? Is it worth repairing? The machine was installed in late 2005, but is used less than 5 months per year by two people.

Bob, You're probably on target with your guess, the touchpad WP3385744 is the more likely issue, " PROBLEM: WON’T RUN AND LED ABOVE KEY(S) IS FLASHING RAPIDLY - Short circuit(s) in keypad or in control’s input lines that read the keys. - Don’t replace both: See first section of “Checking Keypad Operation” for test to determine whether shorts are in the keypad or the control.". Once you've installed the control panel, you will want to conduct the "service diagnostics cycle program" to reset the eeprom memory. As for the TCO issues, you may want to check and insure the electrical connections in the junction box on the front frame of the dishwasher are correct and tight, Loose connections and wiring, and voltage issues can cause the thermal fuse to fail.

Dan for Model Number Whirlpool GU2500XTPS3

My Whirlpool Quiet Partner III is not functioning properly, and one of the symptoms is that the "Pots and Pans" light flashes on and off. I have tried various procedures that I've seen on Internet forums, which involve pressing control panel buttons in special sequences. However, none of these have fixed the problem. Now I am thinking of replacing the control panel. After removing six screws, the panel separated from the door. On the right side of the panel, there is a rectangular shaped part whose dimensions are approximately 3.5 by 7.5 inches. This part has numerous electronic components and five connectors plus a ribbon cable connector. Based on what I've read, I believe that this rectangular part in not part of the control panel. If this is true, then it appears that the ribbon cable connector is the only connector that needs to be disconnected in order to remove the control panel. Is this correct? If yes, then how do I remove the rectangular part from the control panel? I can see how it is retained with features that are molded in the plastic control panel, but it seems that after the rectangular part is installed at the factory, it cannot be removed without fracturing the retaining features. Please help me better understand the design and the procedure for replacing the control panel. If you are aware of the "flashing lights" symptom from previous experience, do you believe that replacing the control panel will fix the dishwasher? I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

Hello Dan. You are correct. However, there are tabs holding the control board to the control panel WP3385744. Release these tabs to remove the control board from the unit. You will also need to unplug the ribbon cable from the control board as well.

William, Repalcing the control panel/keypad assembly is not all that difficult, and can be donr with basic hand tools. First thing, turn the power to the dishwasher off at the breaker box. 1. Remove the six (6) screws securing the control panel to the door frame. 2. The control panel will now drop down and be free of the door assembly. The wiring harness will remain connected to the console components. Disconnect the touchpad ribbon from the control board connector. Reverse the procedure and test the operation of the machine. Thanks and Good Luck
