Greg, Yes, if you are unable to get the coupler off counter clockwise then it can be cut off just be careful to not damage the threading of the motor shaft.

Brooks, Try to take the bottom off the blender and there is a spot on the motor shaft that will allow you to put a flat blade there to hold the shaft steady to remove the coupler.

RER, Are you able to possibly hold the coupler as you hit pulse only for a sec if tapping it with a screwdriver didn't work. Remember these are reverse threads.

Brett, To get the drive coupler off then you would need to use a screwdriver to keep the shaft not moving. This will allow you to remove the drive coupler.
