Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18040017)

1 Answer

Paul, if the other cycle buttons are not responsive, the failure would be in the console WP8274734. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

My Dishwasher when turned on began smoking and an electrical short ensued. I opened up the door assembly and checked the 8564543 Controller Board, the (T) Tan terminal was completely burned and there is a black hole in the 8564543 Controller where the (T) terminal was. Also the Tan wire that leads to the door switch is scarred and burned and the black terminal connector is partially melted. Is this a complete failure or just a door switch problem, or a failed motor? I know I will need to order a new 8564543 Controller and a door switch, should I check anything else, like the motor or the fill valve for replacement? Any ideas what caused this failure, and what parts I need to order, or just give up and buy a new Dishwasher?

1 Answer

Robert, You can test the door switch to make sure that it is good and if it is then it sounds likely that it was just a loose connection at the control board that caused this issue and will need to replace the control board.

Rambo, the main control WP8564543 would need to be tested for 120VAC when a drain cycle should be occurring. If there is not 120VAC, the failure would be in the control.

Vincent, unfortunately, we do not carry rebuilt parts. As the manufacturer has discontinued the control panel 8564799 for the model provided, we would not know where one could be obtained.

Rob for Model Number Kenmore (Whirlpool) 665.16359300

My dishwasher began acting up. Three (3) issues began around the same time. First, when the detergent door opens, the actuator chatters (flutters) rapidly like it's engaged, then disengaged, then engaged, etc. for about a minute. Second, when the water is completely drained, the drain pump continues to operate for about a minute making a noise like there's a foreign object rattling around somewhere near it. Third, when the washer begins filling there's a strange buzzing noise coming from the control board near the three relays. I swapped out the detergent door actuator and it made no difference. The actuator still chatters rapidly. I replaced the detergent door/filling/drain pump relay and that has made no difference. Lastly, I removed the drain pump and found nothing loose that could be causing the rattle. I also shook the washer, leaning it on both sides (left/right) and front/back to see if something was loose. Again, no rattles. I can't help but think that all three problems are linked together somehow since they all occurred around the same time. My only other option at this point is to try and replace the entire control board, however, that potential fix could be expensive since they don't make them anymore. And, on top of that, it might not solve the issues. Do you think the problems are associated with the control board? Should I give it a try? Thank you

1 Answer

Hello Rob, You should go inside the unit and pull the accumulator assembly and remove the chopper cover. The usual cause of the chatter is something in the circulation pump area of a failed/broken chopper blade W10083957V. The only other thing that makes any sense is an issue with the control board WP8564543 since the relays do fail commonly. I'm sorry but this part WP8564543 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
