Kim August 27, 2016 for Model Number MH8150XJB-1 Hi, I'm trying to find the location of the diode and determine if I must remove the unit from the cabinet to access it. I've removed the control panel and per a video looked to remove the metal plate above but it does not appear to be removable. According to the Tech Sheet, it appears the diode sits behind the cooling fan motor with the magnetron above it. Any suggestions on accessing the diode? Thanks!
1 Answer Kim, In order to replace the diode you will need to pull the unit down from installation and remove the cabinet. Once the cabinet of the unit has been removed the diode will be coming off of the capacitor. Randy August 11, 2015 for Model Number MH3184XPB0 I have a Whirlpool MH3184XP microwave that does not heat. The last time I used it, I heard a loud crack (high voltage arc to ground?) a few seconds after I pressed run. All other operations (e.g. ventilation fan, control panel, turntable, underhood lights, etc.) seem to be working, just no heat. I tested the capacitor which seems OK. I understand it could be the diode. Where is this diode located? It is not in plain sight when I look behind the control panel.
1 Answer Hello Randy. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the transformer should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. All of these are +- 10%. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. The diode W11256462 goes from the capacitor to the frame of the unit. Read More...

George February 28, 2014 for Model Number Maytag, made by Whirlpool, microwave Hello, my microwave starts and runs, but makes a loud humming noise and will not heat. I think it is the Diod. it reads 4.9 both ways on my ohm meter. I know it should only read one way, but I thought if it was bad it would read open in one direction. Do you think my diod is bad.
