The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to ignite the gas in the oven burner, providing the heat necessary for baking or broiling. This igniter is critical for the oven’s functionality, as it must heat up to a specific temperature to open the gas valve and begin the combustion process.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven failing to heat up despite the gas being turned on.
  • A gas smell indicating that gas is being released without ignition.
  • Intermittent heating, where the oven fails to maintain a consistent temperature.

Causes of a bad oven igniter can include aging and wear that reduce the igniter’s ability to reach the required temperature, electrical issues such as faulty wiring or connections, or a malfunctioning safety valve that doesn’t open properly.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM18041961)

1 Answer

Hello Louise. Check and see if the igniter is sparking. If not, then check and see if the igniter WP8054129 is good. It should read closed for continuity and not be cracked. If good, replace the module. If the igniter is sparking, then test the gas valve WPW10293048 and replace if needed. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Rebecca, You have us at a lost. You forgot to supply a complete model number, but. Based on the information you did supply, your oven doesn't have an oven "spark" igniter, or a DSI spark module, it has a "hot surface" glow bar igniter WP7432P136-60 for both the bake and broil burners. You should remove the oven base panel and flame spreader and check to see what is mounted to the burner tube before you order any parts.

Darren, You will want to check the oven sensor to make sure that it is good. At room temp the oven sensor should be approximately 1090 ohms resistance. If not then you will need to replace the sensor.

Holly, You didn't mention an issue with the Broil burner. If it is working correctly, then the issue is most likely in the DSI spark module WPW10331686 The "re ignition" circuit in the control is weak and or malfunctioning and not allowing the burner to re ignite during the bake cycle

Jim for Model Number SF362LXTS0

Hi, I have a Whirlpool Gas oven, approx 5 yrs old, Model # #SF362LXTS0. This gradually started over a 1 month period. The oven ignites, heats up and then cuts out. The broiler works, the range top works without issues... It's just the oven. I had tested the temp probe with my multi meter, I was getting 0 for ohms, when I should be reading approx 1100 ohms, I even cut the jacket back a bit and still came up with 0. So I bought a new temp probe, which ohms fine.. with the new probe, it does stay lit a bit longer (15 -25 min) , but cuts out still. Can anyone please help direct me to where I should be looking next? Gas valve / Circuit Board / or the ignitor-gas burner.. My oven's gas burner has the ignitor riveted to the side, IT IS NOT the heater element type, looks more like what you have on your grill outside.. I appreciate all your thoughts , suggestions and efforts.... TY

Hello Jim. If it shuts off and never lights back, you will need to replace the control board on the unit. It should cycle on and off to regulate the temp once the unit has preheated.

Kevin, since the issue is intermittent, and it seems to apply to the bake burner ignition you'd need to suspect the DSI spark module,WPW10331686. The re ignition circuit in the control board for the bake burner is probably weak and intermittent.

Zak, You will want to test you oven sensor to make sure that the sensor is good. You should have a resistance value of 1090 ohms at room temperature and if not then the sensor is faulty and would need to be replaced.
