Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Moisture Sensor Bar (Part Number: OEM18024828)

Hello Noel, The only thing that can make the automatic cycles not work when the timed dry cycles work is the exhaust duct. There has to be a crimp or clog in it. To prove this, remove the duct from the back of the unit and start it on an auto dry cycle. The timer will move noticeably in 5 to 10 minutes.

Hello Brian. It sounds like the gas coils 279834 may be bad in the unit. If so, it causes the flame to short cycle.

Jay, The clip is the metal piece that you see. When you look in there the part should face at an angle and down. This helps to make sure that the lint filter stays in place when dryer is running.

Hello Tony. If the igniter is glowing, but the flame is not lighting, it sounds like the coils on the gas valve need to be replaced.

This propane gas dryer seems to run forever in any sensor dry mode, way past when the clothes are already dry. Time dry works fine. I pulled out the sensor bars and tested the resistance; 0 ohms open and about 175,000 ohms with a damp rag across the bars, and this is after I cleaned them. I've read that the resistance should be only about 1000 ohms. Is there a way to determine if it just needs new sensor bars, or whether I need to replace the main control board? It seems like there's really nothing to these bars; they're just metallic strips and I can't see how they would fail.

Hello Jim, The sensor dry or "auto dry" cycles always fail due to a crimped, clogged, or excessively long and complicated exhaust duct. Try the auto cycle with the unit dis-connected from the duct. If it advances after five minutes, the issue is with the duct and not with the dryer. If the sensor dry cycle does not work because of an issue with the unit, the timed dry will not advance either.

Carl T for Model Number Whirlpool Senseon

The dryer is doing what others report pointing to a dirty moisture sensor; only will dry in manual mode. I tested the thermistor good, high limit good, etc before I noticed a possible missing sensor bar. When looking deeper I noticed I only have one sensor bar (top one). It appears the bar is missing that once connected to the black wire on harness 3406653. The end of the sensor strip was still connected to the harness and looks like it was broken free from the bar. The red/yellow wire's strip is intact. Am I assuming correctly there is suppose to be two bars sensing resistance between the pair? If so, please direct me to the proper part. Thanks again.

1 Answer

Hello Carl, Yes there are supposed to be 2 sensor bars WP3387223 on unit and will not work in the auto setting if one of the bars is missing.

Hello Jody, The sensor light is for when the unit is sensing the clothes drying. The sensor bars can be cleaned by using rubbing alcohol on them. You will also want to check your venting to make sure that the venting from the blower all the way to the outside of home is clear. If clogged then the unit will not dry properly.

MM, Are you sure you have 220-240 VAC at the outlet and the terminal block of the dryer ? If all's OK, you'll need to check the thermal fuse, Wiring, and belt switch. If the fuse, switch, or blue wiere are open, the power to the motor is eliminated and the dryer won't start or run. Here's some meter usage information if you need it [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html] And we'll send you some more information to help you out. Good Luck and Thanks
