Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Element, 9" Surface (Part Number: OEM18036087)

1 Answer

Hi Vince. The limiters will read closed (.01 -.5 ohms.). Put together the meter leads as you have the meter scale set on R x 1. What the resistance on the leads will normally read in this range. This is subtracted from the measurement you have if you need to be specific. The element resistance is ohms. Disconnect the 1a and the 1b wire. Then on the center terminal to the one that had the red wire on it you will read between 35-65 ohms. Reconnect the red wire and disconnect the orange wire. Test between the center terminal and the orange wire terminal, the meter should read between 25-55 ohms. 9" element is part # WP8203528. Thank You.

Kyle for Model Number kerc507ywh1

Please look at the second of two pictures you have provided above for this part. Pay particular attention to the connectors. The original part for my model (OEM part # 9750755) has been discontinued, and the part above is now being provided by Whirlpool as a direct replacement. The problem I am having is this: the connectors for the direct replacement part a situated differently than the original, and I am unsure about how to install the new part. Here are two pictures of my original part: http://bit.ly/rvS3p4 and http://bit.ly/uYdjnO As you can see, the connections, although similar in some ways, are clearly different. If you could help, I would appreciate it. Also, if you could provide me a wiring diagram, that would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

Hello Kyle. You will plug the purple and the black wires on the back of the block in the same location as the original element. Then take the black wire, not the jumper, and plug it into the last spade on the side of the new element. Then the other black wire, goes to the terminal on the block under the purple wire. If wired this way, the element WP8203528 should work properly. Hope this helps.
