For Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter (Part Number: OEM17950698)

1 Answer

Rhett, Check to see that you have proper water pressure to the refrigerator. Then check that the water does not flow through the water valve except when called for (if it does the valve would be the issue). Then check the water filter housing and replace it as needed.

My Whirlpool got a new housing about six months ago, and now I can't get the filter EDR3RXD1 to "click" into it. In fact, I just found out that the last one I inserted myself after the new housing was put in hadn't actually been filtering. I left it in thinking perhaps this housing didn't require the loud "click," but I was wrong. What should I try? I've been using Glacial Pure filters for years but do I need to go back to the Whirlpool brand, perhaps?

Cynthia, In some cases you have to push really hard to get the filter to lock into place. It would be best to use the manufacturer's filter. You may need to replace the filter housing for this issue.

James, With water coming out when the filter is not in place then there is no frozen line. This would be an issue with the water filter housing that will need to be replaced. The water filter housing part number is WPW10121138.

James, the dispenser will need to be held down as water pushes the air in the filter out. It can take up to a minute of holding the dispenser down before water sputters out. If water does not come through after a minute, the failure would likely be the filter housing WPW10121138 not engaging properly if the filter is fully installed.

Hello Richard, there is no recommended alternative procedure to remove/install water filter other than with the cap. The problem is if the filter is only partially removed or installed there may be a water leak.

Scott, It would be recommended to check and make sure that the fill tube did not freeze. If the filter was changed without purging the air out of the lines then it could have cause the fill tube to freeze.
