This filter is used by specific Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators with a round plastic filter located inside the refrigerator compartment which accept Filter 8. Single filter. Simple turn installation. Filter Media: Coconut Carbon Block. Micron Rating: 0.5. Replace every six months for optimal performance. Temp Range: 33 - 100 °F. Pressure Range: 30 - 120 psi. Blake, There are various filters to remove various chemicals and minerals from the water supply. The EDR8D1 Removes Particulates and 99% of Chlorine. It is used in most installations and applications. The manufacturer no longer offers the "cyst" filter 8171414 which Removes 99.35% of Lead, 98.72% of Mercury, 99.99% of Asbestos, 99.99% of Cysts, 77.99% of Atrazine, 98.72% of Lindane, 92.97% of Toxaphene, 97.26% of Chlorine, 97.09% of Turbidity, and more than 98.68% of Particulates, for your model refrigerator. Hello Margaret. You will need to unscrew the old water filter and screw in the new filter EDR8D1. Once installed, run about 2 gallons of water to remove the air from the lines. Hope this helps.
