Mike May 18, 2020 for Model Number MLE2000AYW What should the voltage of this dryer heater be when tested directly on the heater? I have tested all parts (fuses, etc.) but am not getting heat. I have 240v at the block, but i cannot find what the voltage on the heater itself should be when testing directly on the heater. When i test the heater on either side of the element, i read 124 volts. i am not clear if this is correct, and if not, what i need to do to fix it. thanks.
1 Answer Mike, Remove one wire and test again. You are probably reading the same voltage on both sides. @40 vac is needed at the element Read More...
1 Answer Hello Dave, You would actually be testing for 240Vac to the dryer from the home supply at the terminal block. This is done by removing the cover where the power cord connects to the dryer and testing with an AC Voltage test meter from the red wire on one end of the terminal block to the black wire on the other end of the terminal block. If you test from either outside terminal to the center terminal, (which is neutral), you should read 120Vac. Read More...
David November 28, 2014 for Model Number MDE16CSAYQ Is it normal for the heating elements to cycle on and off? Or are they suppose to stay on? When set on high heat it heats for about 45 seconds then shuts off for about two minutes then back on again and repeats the cycle. All heating elements are working and get hot.
1 Answer David, The heating element will cycle on and off but it does sound like it is cycling too quickly. You will want to test the thermostats on the unit to make sure that they are good. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Mark. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Tim November 04, 2012 for Model Number MDE9520AYW Dryer runs/spins, but there is no heat. I have checked the thermostat with a multi-meter and everything seems to be fine. The vents are clean, air flow is fine. Do I need a new heater element? If so, what is the part number?
1 Answer Hello Tim, First you should check for 240Vac at the terminal block. If this is present, you need to open the unit with the power dis-connected to it and use an ohm meter to test the thermal cut-out, cycling thermostat, high limit thermostat, heating element, motor centrifugal switch, timer, and associated wiring. This will pinpoint which component is causing your issue. Read More...
Ed February 12, 2012 for Model Number MDE5500AYW No Heat, so I assume it is the heater assembly which includes the thermal fuse. Or the control board, but the dryer runs so maybe not?
1 Answer Hello Ed. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater WP307178 and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Joanne January 16, 2012 for Model Number Maytag LDE8704ACM What is the correct part number for a Maytag Electric Dryer heating element? I assume it is the heating assembly that I need?
1 Answer Hello Joanne! The replacement heater for a 208v is part number WPW10116747 and for 240v use WP307178. Thanks! Read More...
1 Answer Hello Laura. No, not unless your thermostat is bad. If it reads closed for continuity and is good, you will only need the heater WP307178. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
