The Heating Element is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It generates the heat necessary to dry clothes by converting electrical energy into thermal energy, ensuring efficient and effective drying performance. This heater measures approximately 11.7 x 10.7 inches.

You should replace the heating element if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad heating element can include prolonged usage, electrical issues, or physical damage due to overheating. Over time, the element can burn out or break, leading to insufficient heat production.

Symptoms of a bad heating element include:

  • The dryer not producing heat
  • Clothes taking longer than usual to dry
  • The dryer not reaching the desired temperature
  • Unusual noises or a burning smell during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Heating Element (Part Number: OEM18072606)

Bobby for Model Number lea30aw

My dryer has no heat when running. All the sensors and thermostats have continuity. The heater has no Breaks in the wire and it has continuity and an ohms test shows infinity at 9.7 . The wire on the heater at the thermostat end has 120volts when disconnected from the heater, but there is no voltage showing on the other terminal on the heater or wire that comes from it that goes to the motor. Should this wire (motor side) show 120 volts when the thermostat side wire of the heater is disconnected? If the heater is getting 120 voltage from the thermostat end, shouldn't it be heating?

1 Answer

Hello Bobby. Yes. If there is not 120 from the motor, and there is 240 coming to the dryer, you will need to order and replace the motor on the unit.

Deb, What you will want to do is check for voltage at the heating element with the unit running. Unplug the unit and pull one wire from the side of the heater that goes to the thermostat. Plug the unit back in and turn the dryer on. Test for 120 vac at the terminal where you disconnected the wire. If 120 vac is present then test the loose wire for 120 vac. If either of these do not have 120 vac then you need to trace back to the source and determine if it is the thermostats, timer or motor that is causing loss of power. If there is 120 vac at the loose wire but not on the terminal for the heater then the heater is most likely the cause but trace the circuit back by first testing the other terminal with the wire still connected on the heater. If 120 vac is present there then the heater would be the cause.

Hello Jimmy. There is only one heater in your dryer. We will need the serial number of the dryer to find the right heater for your series.

Hello Mary. No, usually this is caused by a weak crimp on the terminal. Just repair the wire and connector on the unit. Also, make sure the vent is clear.

Don for Model Number MDE308DAYW

I have a Maytag electric dryer model MDE308DAYW that has burned the bottom black wire going to the heating element right off. I cut the wire and replaced the little clip end on it and the dryer worked for a couple of loads and now the wire is burnt off again. Do I need a new heating element? Where the wire clipped into the heating element felt kind of loose in the white plastic insulator that it runs through. Is it supposed to be? Thanks you so much! Great website you have here :-)

1 Answer

Hello Don. If it is loose, yes. You will also need to replace the wire that is burnt on the unit as well.

Hello Wendell. There should be no ground wire for this element. If a wire is burnt, just replace the wire and make sure the vent is clear.

Joyce for Model Number SDE4000AYW

My dryer does not dry anymore on the medium heat setting, which I use for all my permanant press clothes. I put the clothes in set the dryer and come back when it shuts down (about 45 min or so) and my clothes are still wet. Which part should I look at replacing. Have already replaced the switch-temp part#wpl 40084201. Other heat cycles work fine, regular does seem to be a little hotter but that could be just me and it does seem to stay on a lot longer that usual.

Joyce, Disconnect the exhaust vent from the back of the dryer, and check and clean any lint or debris inside the pipe. Check and make sure the vent hood (outside) is not blocked or clogged with lint as well. Remove the lint filter and remove any lint that has accumulated in the duct under the filter. Restricted air flow causes, erratic temperatures and can cause an increase in the drum temperature, which causes the dryer to run longer.
