The Oven Door Hinge is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It is the mechanism that allows the oven door to securely and safely open and close. The hinge components work together to provide an even and balanced movement, while also carrying the weight of the door during operation.

Causes of a bad oven door hinge can include regular wear and tear from frequent use, physical damage due to accidental impacts, or rust and corrosion over time.
Symptoms of a bad oven door hinge include:

  • Improper closure where the door does not align or seal fully with the oven cavity
  • Increased noise or squeaking upon opening and closing
  • The door becoming loose or wobbly over time

This OEM Whirlpool replacement part is also compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Note: If the hinges have never been replaced the manufacturer also recommends replacing door hinge receiver kit part number 12002578

Kirk for Model Number MER5785RAS

The oven door does not seem to close correctly sometimes even leaving the light on inside the oven. Is it that the hinges' springs get sprung? Is that common on these Maytag models? Would a replacement of the hinges solve the problem? How important is it to replace the receivers at the same time? They look much harder to get out than the hinges! I inspected the hinges and they look fine but that is the only thing I can point to as to why the door won't close properly. There does not seem to be any adjustment on these hinges.....HELP!

Hello Kirk. It does sound like the hinges are bad on the unit. You can start with replacing them and if the issue continues, you will need to replace the receivers as well. Most likely just the hinges will need to be replaced.

Hello JPS. Open the door all the way. There is locking clips on the hinge you will need to pull upwards on and slide them forward to lock them into place. Then close the door until it stops. Next lift the door upward and off the unit.

Linda, If the hinge came out of the receptacle without the locking device in position then you will need to extend the hinge like the door is open and get the locking device in place. Once this is done it will be easier to get the door into position.

Hello Michael. Make sure the lock for the hinge is in place and if so, you will insert it into the receiver and make sure it seats properly into the unit.

Hello Derek, Make sure the locks are pointing toward the door with the hinges in the fully opened position. Put the door hinges back into the slots and work up and down until they feel like they have caught on the recievers. Put the door in the fully opened position. The door should set there on the hinges like the door is just open. Flip the hinge locks toward the unit body and close the door. I'm sorry but a video hasn't been made on this subject that I could find.

Hello Susan. To clean the glass in an oven door, you will need to determine how to remove the door on the model number you are working on. If you open the door to the first stopping point, some oven doors will lift off the unit in this position. On other models, you will see clips on the back of the hinge toward the opening where the hinge enters the range. If yours is like this, you will open the door all the way open, then pull the clips down until they stop and lock in place. Then close the door to the stopping point and lift the door off the range. If you door does not lift off, and it does not have the clips, then you will open the door all the way open. You will see a hole in the hinge at the bottom of the door. You will insert a pin or nail into that hole and close the door to the stopping point. Then you can lift the door off the unit. Once the door is removed, you will lay it on a soft surface and disassemble the door. Pay attention and make notes if needed for reassembly of the oven door. Once you have cleaned the door glass, you will reinstall the oven door back onto the range in reverse order of the way you removed it. No spring is going to come off when disassembling the unit.
