The Oven Door Hinge is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It is the mechanism that allows the oven door to securely and safely open and close. The hinge components work together to provide an even and balanced movement, while also carrying the weight of the door during operation.

Causes of a bad oven door hinge can include regular wear and tear from frequent use, physical damage due to accidental impacts, or rust and corrosion over time.
Symptoms of a bad oven door hinge include:

  • Improper closure where the door does not align or seal fully with the oven cavity
  • Increased noise or squeaking upon opening and closing
  • The door becoming loose or wobbly over time

This OEM Whirlpool replacement part is also compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Note: If the hinges have never been replaced the manufacturer also recommends replacing door hinge receiver kit part number 12002578

Hello T.E., You may be able to use a pair of vise grips to pull the hinges down far enough to lock the tabs to the open position. If so, you can then proceed to install the door since the hinges have to be locked to the open position to install the door on the unit. The springs are very strong and can be dangerous to deal with so you will need to be cautious not to acquire any injuries from the assembly. If you cannot achieve this result, you may need to contact an experienced tech for assistance.

Mary, When you fully open the door, there should be a hole in each hinge that you will be able to put a hinge pin 98012220 in the hinge. Once you place the pin in you will start closing the door until it stops. Once it stops you will push up on the door and it should then be able to be lifted off.

Hello Ron, unfortunately, there is no recommended procedure for this problem. The door hinge has failed on one side and this is a heavy oven door assembly. You can try locking the working hinge to the open position and at least two people (one on each side) try to lift the door up and out of the oven frame. If it still will not come out you can try to disassemble the door one piece at a time taking pics while you do do it until you are able to remove the door hinges from the inner door frame then out of the oven frame, lastly, if this is not practical, suggest you call in a service technician for the repair.

Tim for Model Number WFC31050AB0

when removing my oven door i flipped up the hinge lock and removed the door just like in the videos i watched. When i removed the screws holding door together the hinge lock was flipped closed and I am unable to flip it open and unlock the spring loaded hinge. It was damaged by the force of the spring so I ordered a new one. It arrived with the hinge lock forward down and the hinge locked in place. I unlocked that hinge when removing the door, doesn't it need to unlocked with the hinge moving freely to reinstall the door?

1 Answer

Tim, It is really difficult and you will likely need help to pull the hinge open and lock it open to reinstall it and the door.

Marjorie for Model Number RBS245pdt11

Three years ago, my husband replaced the oven door hinges because the door was not closing tightly. Using part # WP4455523. The oven door slowly started staying open again and the light stayed on. When we last tried to use it the door came off entirely. Did my husband install the hinges incorrectly? I remember on one side the pin popped out on the floor as he was settling the door in place. Do we need new hinge receptacles as well as new hinges?

1 Answer

Hello Marjorie, The hinges WP4455523 are the most likely cause of this issue but you will have to inspect the receivers to determine if they require attention also.

Patrick, I would try using this part number for your upper door. It is a little stronger and may hold up better. {AP6009479] Door hinges are designed to work with a certain type of door cover. Stainless steel is a little heavier and requires a stronger spring. These are designed for stainless steel.
