The Ice Maker is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is responsible for producing ice cubes to fill the ice bucket in the freezer. The ice maker utilizes water from the refrigerator's internal supply line and electricity to slowly freeze water into individual ice cubes.

Causes of a bad ice maker can include worn components that affect its ability to properly freeze water, malfunctions in the electronic control board that regulate the process, or issues with the supply line.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker include:

  • Failure to produce ice cubes
  • Incorrect sized or shaped ice
  • Excessive noise during operation
  • Water in the freezer

This OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: 8 cube icemaker Includes two wire harnesses and shut off arm.

Randy, There will not be 120 vac from the blue to the yellow continuously. The only time that there will be 120 vac is when the ice maker calls for water valve to open to put water in the ice maker.

No ice being made. Wasn't any water in tray. Inserted jumper wire between holes V and L. Water was sent to tray. Next wanted to place jumper wire between holes T and H but I cannot see a hole T (V, L, M and H are the only holes I can see). Part # on assembly is W100377151. Is there any other testing I can do or should I conclude the ice making unit is the problem and replace the unit. Based on the cost of a thermostat or a motor unit versus the complete ice making unit it does not appear to make sense to replace either of these components.

1 Answer

Dan, The T on the icemaker should be the hole that is down at the bottom where the H is located. Based on the water flowing in when the jumping V to L would most likely mean that the thermostat is faulty or the motor on the icemaker has failed. You would want to replace the icemaker.

Hello Tim. To replace the icemaker on this unit, you will remove the ice bin. On the left wall at the bottom there is a cover. Use a small screwdriver in the little hole to release the cover. Once released you will then disconnect the harness and push the lever on the side of the icemaker and slide out. On the bottom of the assembly there are 3 screws that you remove to take icemaker off the assembly.

Noticed shut arm of icemaker had fallen off and on floor of bottom freezer. I can replace the arm myself but my question is...can the arm fall off by just disengaging itself from its part or can the arm fall off because a part has broken off or there's a major problem with how the arm can reconnect? I don't want to spend the time removing the ice maker and find out the arm cannot be reinstalled because of a broken part. So all of this means ..Can the arm fall off without any internal damage.?

1 Answer

Richard, Yes the arm can fall off without any internal damage to the icemaker but the fill cup on the icemaker has a part that the arm goes through. If this piece has broken then the fill cup would need to be replaced.

Hello Sheena. Make sure the cut off arm on the icemaker is pushed down into the on position. It would have been raised up since the ice was full. If so, Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Brian for Model Number GI6FDRXXY07

My icemaker is the Whirlpool W10377151-I am not getting any ice or waterflow unless I manually move the arm up and down. If I leave it over night it will have some small cubes, but will not make ice again unless you manually move the arm again. I put a jumper wire between terminal T and H and the arm will move up and down and you can hear the dial turning in the ice maker. I watched it go through a complete harvest cycle with the jumper and waited for a minute once the arm got to the bottom and still didn't get water until I manually move the arm-then water flowed into the icemaker. It would seem that when the water valve is getting a signal the valve works fine. We aren't having any issues on the water side of the dispenser so it makes me think the valve is operating properly. I assume it is the same valve/solenoid for the ice maker and water dispenser? Thoughts on what to do next? I hate throwing parts at a problem so any diagnostic advice to determine the problem part before I order from you would be greatly appreciated.
