Symptoms of a failing Icemaker Assembly include:

  • No ice production or very little ice being made
  • Ice cubes that are smaller than normal or misshapen
  • Leaking water in the freezer compartment
  • Unusual noises during the ice making cycle, such as clicking or buzzing

Causes of a bad icemaker can include issues with the water inlet valve, freezer temperature not being cold enough, or mechanical failures within the icemaker itself, such as a faulty motor or an obstructed fill tube.

Fredcu, Yes with the icemaker not bringing in water then this would be a faulty icemaker in the unit and would need to replace the icemaker.

Hello Chuck. Make sure your filter is good. If so, then it sounds like your water valve is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Nb

I have replaced this same unit twice in my KitchenAid fridge (W10122576). It dies, water dribbles out onto the floor and damages flooring, and it stops making ice completely. I replace and am good for about 2.5 years. Have done this twice. Is this newer part # an updated model? What has changed? Have the new ones continued to fail? I'm ready to shut off the ice maker and leave it (I can deal with replacing regularly, but I'm away a lot and have replaced the floor in my kitchen twice due to water damage!!) If this will fix the problem, I'll buy it. If not I'd rather just make ice using ice cube trays to avoid the floor damage.

Hello NB. The icemaker has not changed in design. It is not common for them to leak that often. You may have a water valve issue with the unit.

Hello Steve. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Mike, To access the icemaker in your refrigerator you would take the ice bin out and remove the 2 screws that are on either side. Lift up on the casing and lift the casing off. Once off there will be 2 screws holding the icemaker bracket in place. Unplug harness and remove the screws and lift icemaker out. The icemaker part number for your unit is WPW10251076.

Hello Rick. You will lift up on the tab of the wiring connector to remove the icemaker WPW10251076 from the unit. There is no way of replacing the harness inside the door without replacing the door assembly.
