Symptoms of a failing Icemaker Assembly include:

  • No ice production or very little ice being made
  • Ice cubes that are smaller than normal or misshapen
  • Leaking water in the freezer compartment
  • Unusual noises during the ice making cycle, such as clicking or buzzing

Causes of a bad icemaker can include issues with the water inlet valve, freezer temperature not being cold enough, or mechanical failures within the icemaker itself, such as a faulty motor or an obstructed fill tube.

For Whirlpool Icemaker Assembly (Part Number: OEM18053505)

Hello Greg, The small round style connector should simply pull straight out since the surrounding rubber part of the connector is a seal to help inhibit water infiltration. If it is, in fact, the rectangular one shown in the part illustration, there will be a locking tab on one side that, when released, will allow you to pull the connector out.

Henry420, Sometimes the fill tube on these units can start to freeze and reduce the fill. It should be a 7.5-second fill and a little less than 5 oz. Open your door and remove the cover from your icemaker and check the fill tube. If frozen let thaw and place a zip tie around the outer area of where the fill tube goes into the door.

Hello Randy, If the optics light is on steady with the flapper pushed out of the way, the optics are operating properly. If the icemaker has been replaced and the fill tube is not frozen, the water valve WPW10258562 or water supply will be the issue. The water valve can test good electrically but that does not mean it is opening when energized.

My fridge has the icemaker in the door, part number W10122576. It has stopped making ice. There is a small amount of frozen water in the mold. I have good pressure and can fill an 8 oz. glass with water from the water dispenser. A couple of questions: Is is possible for the icemaker portion of the water inlet valve to be bad while the water dispenser portion of the water inlet valve is good? Also, the number on the icemaker in the fridge is W10122576, but I have also seen some websites which say WPW10251076 replaces W10122576. What is the difference, as W10122576 is significantly less cost than the WPW10251076, but the photos look exactly the same? Could this also be a problem with the ice level optics, as I don't see any lights when pulling out the bin and holding the door switches and bin flapper switch in.

Rich, It is very possible that the water valve could have failed and you would need to cycle the ice maker and check the water valve to make sure that there is 120 vac getting to the valve. If there is not then this will be a faulty icemaker which would be part number WPW10251076 which comes with a new harness base plate.

Hello Nat, This is most likely caused by either low water pressure to the unit or the water valve WPW10238100. While it is possible for the icemaker WPW10251076 to cause this, it does not cause the issue nearly as often as the water pressure or valve.

Matthew, No, unplugging the refrigerator will not reset the ice maker. Check and make sure the wiring harness at the back wall is properly seated and locked in place, make sure you didn't accidentally push a pin out of the wall connector. You can use an insulated wire, stripped at both ends, insert the ends into the openings T and H, hold it there until the main gear on front starts to rotate a few seconds. when the rake arm reaches the 12 o'clock position check to see if you're getting 120 VAC to the ice maker solenoid from the ice maker.

Josiah for Model Number GSF26C5EXB02

The ice maker does not harvest the ice from the ice mold. It automatically fills up with water but doesn't ever push out the ice into the ice bin. After a period of time water is again sent to the ice mold and it overflows (due to the ice still in the mold) into the ice bin and out the door. I have replaced the ice maker (AP6017832) as recommended by the answers to similar issues but the same issue continues. Is there a control board or sensor that may not be telling the ice maker to harvest the ice that would actually be the issue?

1 Answer

Hello Josiah, This is an issue with the icemaker assembly WPW10251076 since the ice mold has to heat up so it can cycle. There will also be an issue with the motor module inside the icemaker since the icemaker has to cycle around before voltage is sent to the water valve to refill.

Eric, If you haven't yet, do the "basic" checks, water filter recently replaced ? water pressure to refrigerator in range (32 to 35 PSI minimum recommended) a quick easy check, fill an 8 oz. glass of water in 10 seconds or less. If all's OK replace the ice maker assembly with part number WPW10251076 / W10251076. Here's why " Although a rare occurrence, under a variety of circumstances, the Ice Maker stripper and mounting bracket may cause interference with ice being ejected from the Ice maker mold. The ice cubes may get stuck and prevent further discharge of ice cubes. Order and Install a new Ice Maker Assembly to replace the production Ice Maker (New Ice Maker Assembly includes mounting bracket). Production Ice Maker (from Parts List) W10122576. New Ice Maker Assembly W10251076." Thanks,

Hello Colin. If the valve and the sensors are new, you will need to make sure the fill tube is not frozen. If not, then the icemaker is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
