Symptoms of a bad bottom interlock support include:

  • The microwave door not closing properly or securely

Hello Diane. Most likely there is one or more broken parts inside at the door latch. There are two interlock supports, plate cam and three door switches. To determine what is exactly broken, you'll need to take the unit out, remove the outer cover and closely examine all those parts. Also, don't forget to check the door latch on the door itself. If you go to out home page at appliancepartspros.com and type in the model number you'll get the parts breakdown diagrams. Scroll to Interior and Ventilation section to find all the parts I listed above. Thank you.

Help! Recently, when I open my microwave the light flashes (like a strobe light) and makes a clicking sound. It's like the door latch isn't sure if the door is open or shut. This morning, I had the brilliant idea to test my theory. Since the top latch (on inside panel of microwave) looked tighter (i.e. plastic "grips" closer together), I assumed that was the culprit. So I took a popsicle stick and gently pressed it against the groove of the plastic "grips" to see if I could recreate the problem. Well, the "grips" released (I swear I didn't push hard!), the plastic thing disappeared, and now nothing works! Aaaaaah! Is this something I can easily fix myself (I'm handy, but I'm no mechanical genius)? Is this the correct part? Again, it's the top latch on the microwave. If the latching system has a male part and a female part, this would be the female part (the male part is on the door). Your help will be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU! Sincerely, Jacki

Jacki, You could possibly need the cam plate W10562613 and top support WP8206419. It is possible to repair this by removing the grill then the control housing. If not the unit would have to come down and outer cover removed.
