The Damper Pad Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. The kit includes three specially designed pads made of durable materials. These pads effectively dampen vibrations, providing cushioning and stability to minimize noise and ensure a smoother operation of the washing machine. Additionally, the kit includes three tubes of poly-lube grease. This grease lubricates the contact points between the damper pads and the machine's framework.

Causes of a faulty damper pad kit can include wear and tear over time, damage due to heavy loads or mishandling, or degradation of the pads and lubrication.

Symptoms of a bad damper pad kit may include:

  • Excessive noise or rattling during washing or spinning
  • Increased vibrations or movement of the washing machine
  • Visible wear or damage to the existing pads

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Shaun, There is no specification that we would be able to advise. This is one where you should have marked it prior to removal.

Nancy, Check the glides and springs on the motor mount to make sure that it is moving freely. Make sure that the helix is not damaged and make sure that the pump is not seized up.

Robert for Model Number A412

My washer vibrated on the spin cycle. I found the damper pads damaged and out of position, so I installed a damper pad kit. I had difficulty removing the brake without the proper removal tool, and had to make my own, otherwise the repair went smoothly. After reassembly the vibration problem has been corrected, but the agitator does not work during wash and rinse cycles. Instead, the agitator and drum spin (slowly). The agitator seems to hesitate and start to reverse once as the cycle starts, but after that the entire assembly spins. Have I damaged the brake? Some other component? Is there another explanation. Thanks in advance.

Hello Robert, the drive lug may not be adjusted correctly, this is from the service manual: Place the rotor bearing on the drive pulley with the cupped side down over hub of the pulley. Turn the drive pulley onto the shaft and run it up till tight. Install the drive lug on the end of the drive shaft directly across from the pulley lug (180deg) with the pulley still run up tight.one side of the drive lug is flat compared to the other side. The flat side should be towards the pulley. Release the pulley and let it drift down against the drive lug. Now run the pulley back up the driveshaft until you begin to encounter resistance. Check the positions of the drive lug and the pulley lug. The two lugs should have about 1/4" space between them.

Kelly, With this tool TJ038315 being discontinued the only thing you could try to do is get a pipe wrench that will fit on the brake and remove it that way.

Leo, The radial bearing, isn't the issue, when it goes it makes a very loud rumbling noise and is usually preceded by a major leak from the tub seal. It has little to nothing to do woth the tub position. Wouldn't expect it to be the balance ring to be the issue, you would've found concrete or chucks of cement in the tub, the vibration and movement would've showed up a long time ago (in the first year or so of usage). Since you haven't moved the washer or damaged it in any way, that pretty much leaves the damper pad assembly 203956. They could be worn excessively, you can't really tell until you raise the tub assembly and check the pads, they may be "dry" the lubrication has degraded or the adhesive may have degraded and the pads are "moving" between the damper and the washer base panel. That's the more likely problem, at this point.

Papi for Model Number LAT8714AAE

I believe the snubber pads on my washer have completely worn out due to extreme and violent shaking when on spin cycle. Quite a bit of black grease appears to have leaked out of the bottom of the washer. Could this merely be the disintegrated snubber pad or should I worry about another type leakage from another part of the washer? There is no scraping noise, only loud thumping on the spin cycle. After opening up the front of the washer, I found no grease on the interior. It was only underneath the washing machine itself.

Papi, The damper kit 203956 would be the first place to start with the shaking and off balance issue. With the black greasy substance it may just be from the belt of the unit.

Fred L for Model Number a107 maytag washer

I was replacing the brake assembly on my maytag a107 washer. I took off the pulley and got ahead of myself due to being distracted and started unscrewing the brake assy before removing the set screw holding the brake from turning. So, when I had turned the brake over 1 turn with the set screw in and the brake wasn't getting any looser, I realized what I had done and removed the set screw. Then when I continued to turn the brake assy counterclockwise by hitting the brake removal tool with the hammer like I had been doing, it would turn, but did not come out. Since there are only about 3 aluminum threads (out of the 6 cut into it) in the damper which actually contact the threads on the brake assy, I assume I have stripped out the threads in the damper and will have to replace it. So the brake assy will turn now, it just doesn't come out any. After much turning of the brake assy, clockwise and counterclockwise, with much wd40, I finally got it off. The threads didn't look stripped to me, but when I put the new brake on, it screwed in about 3 threads and will not tighten, just keeps turning and not going in any further.

1 Answer

Fred, When reinstalling the brake you will need to push up on the brake and turn it one revolution to get it started on the threading to tighten it down.

Hello Chris. Make sure the pulley is not loose first. If it is good, then remove the front and see if the noise is coming from the dampers and replace if needed.
