Eric June 13, 2013 for Model Number LAT8504AAE I have a 18 year old Maytag Washer. Everything works fine until the tub starts to spin. I open the lid and the tub appears to be severely unbalanced. Once stopped, I can move the tub in all four directions and it will not return to center. Any thoughts?
1 Answer Eric, The damper pads on this unit would be the most likely cause of the unit getting off balanced and you would want to replace the damper pad kit 203956. Read More...
John April 03, 2013 for Model Number A612 series 02 I've been reading about replacing the damper and am confused. Will resting the machine on the 4 x 4 really provide enough clearance to get the old pads off and somehow clean the area and glue the new pads in place? It seems like you would need to remove the springs. Also, do you let the glue dry before taking the machine offf of the blocks? FInally, and I should have asked this first: my issue is that the drum wobbles a great deal on spin -- almost as if out of balance, but the load is not out of balance. With an empty tub, it doesn't wobble. Thanks for your help.
1 Answer Hello John. Yes, usually this is enough to replace the dampers 203956 in the unit. If not, you can loosen the spring bolts and get more room to replace the dampers. It does sound like they need to be replaced. Read More...

Stephen February 13, 2012 for Model Number LAT8214AAE OK, I've got the dampeners, I have the grease. Wear is evident and do I glue the felt to the Pan or the transmission "mount"? It seems quite easy to replace. Before glueing can I clean the surface with say carbutator or brake cleaner, keeping in mind the to air the area out because of the flambility of the gases?
1 Answer Hello Stephen. You will not need to use cleaner, but make sure you remove all the old pad. Then you will glue the pads 203956 to the base of the unit. Hope this helps. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Sbabola. Remove the front from the washer and raise the top and disconnect the power to the unit. Then place the large pulley under the washer on top of a 4x4 board. Brace the washer where it does not fall. This will raise the assembly enough for you to access and replace the damper kit 203956. Be careful not to knock the washer off the block of wood. Brace the washer well, where it can not fall of the wood. Hope this helps. Read More...
Richard B. July 01, 2011 for Model Number A610 MAYTAG WASHER At the end of the spin cycles, and the machine slows down there is a metal to metal sound when braking. I've been given two parts numbers: ap4373089 and ap4023716. Can you tell me which to order? Also do both of these assemblies contain part no. Ap4024203? Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Richard. If you are hearing metal to metal when braking, you will need to replace the brake assembly WP6-2011900. If you need the damper kit 203956, you will need to order it separately. Hope this helps. Read More...
