Valerie, take a good look at the new knob WP74011580 and your old knob. It's likely the small metal "D" shaped clip from your old knob is still stuck on the switch shaft. You can see the clip in the picture if you look closely. If the old knob clip is still on your switch shaft, the new knob has a clip too and they will butt up against each other and not allow the knob to go on all the way. In other words, part of your old knob is keeping the new knob from going all the way on. Hope this helps!
