The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lid Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM15789930)

Hello Charles, due to safety and liability reasons we are unable to advise you how to bypass the lid lock. Sorry!

Vegas, Bypassing the lid latch switch assembly would make your washer unsafe to use. The control board has to "see" the lid switch and the lock switch circuits "closed" at the same time. If someone was to raise the lid during a spin cycle, bad things could happen, you may want to reconsider your options.

Donald, Let's try disconnecting power for a couple minutes and see if the control will reset. There is a tech sheet in the upper left front corner for testing if you need it. Tilt the unit back and you may be able to reach it. If not the whole top assembly will need to be raised.

Sheri, You'll want to make several more attempts to program the control into the diagnostics/error code test. You don't want to purchase a control board unnecessarily. Once you are into the diagnostics mode, you may notice Lid Lock, Motor Sensor, and/or Motor Speed errors(F7-E* codes) in the diagnostics tests, This would be a "good" indication that the shift actuator WPW10006355 has failed or the wiring between the shift actuator and main control board has an issue.

Dawn G for Model Number MVWX700XQ0

I had previously posted a question regarding my Maytag Washer (Model MVWX700XQ0) repeating the entire wash cycle after I replaced the lid lock assembly. You responded that this is an issue with the failed relay on the control board, and that I should post a new question so that you could give me a proper diagnosis and recommend parts. So, this is the new post, and I hope you have all of the information you need. I did have one additional question - if it is a failed relay on the control board, was this likely the problem all along? In other words, I didn't need to replace the lid lock assembly, so I can reinstall the old one and return the one I purchased from you?

Dawn, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board and may have been the issue to begin with. Since the lock has already been installed then it is unable to be replaced.

Dawn G. for Model Number MVWX700XQ0

I replaced the lid lock assembly (W10404050) on this model, and it seemed to fix the problem - the washer now goes through an entire wash cycle. After the wash cycle is finished, the washer does nothing for a few minutes and then starts the entire wash cycle again from the start. I assume that I must have hit something out of place when installing the lid lock assembly, and was hoping you could give me some direction on what I need to do to fix it. Thanks

Hello Dawn, This issue will be a failed relay on the control board. For the correct part number, we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can give a proper diagnosis and recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Bill, It will be recommended to access the tech sheet and put the unit into a diagnostic to see what the error code is that is being trigged. Check the fill hose screens on the water valve to make sure that they are not clogged also.

Corinne, The door lock would most likely not be the issue if the unit is agitating. You will want to ensure that the cam is rotating properly and put the unit into the diagnostic and see if there are any stored error codes. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be a wiring harness or control board issue.
