The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Scott, This can be caused by something between the tubs, a bad splutch assembly, an issue with the shift actuator, a lid lock problem, a motor or belt problem, or an issue with the main control board. You should put the unit into the diagnostic mode and check for fault codes. This will point you to the circuit experiencing the problem. The tech sheet is located in a plastic bag affixed to the inside of the front panel of the units' cabinet. It gives specific instructions on running the diagnostics and the explanation of the codes.

This will pinpoint the circuit causing the issue and eliminates any guesswork.

Gabriel, You most likely have an issue between the control board and the shift actuator wiring, or a faulty shift actuator WPW10006355. The optic sensor is putting out improper information to the control board. The best bet,is to access the tech data sheet(located on the left front top corner on the inside of the washer cabinet(you'll need to raise the top or lean the machine back and remove the information). Then conduct the diagnostics error codes and manual or automatic test cycle to check and verify the problem. Thanks,

Hello Donna, The lid lock will have to be manually opened for the lid to properly lock. If this cannot be accomplished manually, you may have to apply power to the assembly to get it to unlock.
