Hello Mary, The correct light bulbs for your unit are 8206232A. You would not want to use higher than the recommended wattage but should not matter on the bulb size on the bulbs not turning off. This would be an inication of possilby a bad circuit board sending power to lights continuously or there being a shorted wire completing the circuit.

Alan for Model Number wmh2175xvb-2

My light bulb for lighting under the microwave has burned out. I have tried two different light bulbs that claim to be for appliances, but they are only 25 watts and 15 watts, respectively. Although they each fit the base neither works. I checked the filament on the original bulb and it's definitely broken. Does the replacement bulb have to be the exact bulb as OEM to work? Or do I have two issues going on? Just double checking before I order an exact replacement bulb from you guys.

Hello Alan, With the light bulbs 8206232A you may have to try to tighten further. When you install a new light bulb it will reach a certain point where it appears to not want to move further. Try to tighten a little more and it should screw in further.

Hello Becky! If the bulb will physically fit, the base is the same, and you do not exceed the wattage (40 watts) you can use any appliance bulb. Thanks!
