Briget May 08, 2020 for Model Number WMH32519HZ3 How do I tell if my light circuit is bad or if it is my light socket that is bad? I have bought numerous light bulbs and I can not get any of them to turn off when installed. They also get very hot to the touch .
1 Answer Hello Briget, This will have to be an issue with the control board W11342846 since it controls the voltage supplied to the bulb. Read More...
Brenda P. May 04, 2020 for Model Number MH7140XFB0 Appliance bulb. The microwave (21 years old) states to only use a 30W 120 volt replacement bulb. But when I search for the correct bulb to replace it - Whirlpool and this site pop up a 40w 130 volt bulb as the correct replacement. This does not sound safe to me - but what do I know?? Explanation? Thanks!
1 Answer Brenda, The 8206232A / 4393681 Exterior Light Bulb 40 Watt is the "factory authorized direct replacement part". The light bulb manufacturer has "upgraded" the production ratings to 130V 40W. However, the microwave will still only produce 120 VAC, and the actual operating wattage will be lower because of the lower AC voltage. The ratings are within the "basic" manufacturing specifications/tolerances (+/- 10-15%) so there shouldn't be any unsafe issues when you replace and install the new light bulbs. Thanks, Read More...
Connie Z. April 19, 2020 for Model Number WMH1163XVS-3 I was very proud of myself for replacing the hard to access exterior light bulb on my Whirlpool microwave. It has two settings and appears to work fine, however I’ve noticed it seems to get very hot thru the exterior glass panel covering it. I don’t recall it getting so hot before I replaced it. Old bulb had 25V 40W on the base. Can you confirm I am using the correct bulb? I bought AP4512653 from your site. Thanks.
1 Answer Connie Yes, this light bulb is recommended by Whirlpool as a replacement part. There are two options for you: do not use it longer than you need to check something on the stovetop or take it to a local hardware store to try to find a light bulb for 25W. Read More...
Leigh April 04, 2020 for Model Number MMV4205DS1 Can I replace the light under the microwave with a LED bulb? My replacement bulb is #8206232A. Some say that it has to be a high heat resistant bulb and I’m not sure if a LED bulb will suffice. I don’t want to damage the microwave or have a bulb explode.
1 Answer Leigh, Unfortunately, we do not have a LED bulb that we can advise would work for this. Read More...

Jim November 13, 2019 for Model Number MMV4205DS2 My microwave is only 3 years old and the interior(cavity) bulb has blown out...the plate cover says only use 30 watts, but it seems that the 30 watt bulb isn't being made anymore....40 watt is now listed as the new part. Is that ok to use now? Also, when I opened up the plate to expose the burnt out bulb, there was a clear glue glob stuck to the socket and bulb, and the only way to get the bulb out was to scrap off the glob...when I called the help number at your web site, I now realize this glue was a type of silicon insulator. Is it still safe with out this gob of silicon on the socket? should I glue it back to the bulb socket or just put in the bulb and place the cover plate back?
1 Answer Jim, The manufacturer has discontinued the 30-watt cavity light and replaced it with the 8206232A/WPL8206232A Lamp, Cavity 40 Watt, The higher wattage bulb will operate properly in your microwave. As for the "glob" of clear glue is "normal" The manufacturer applies a dab of silicone sealer to the socket and bulb for shipping reasons(Keeps the bulb from moving around so the filaments inside the bulb don't break). Once you remove the silicone glob, it doesn't need to be replaced, just install the bulb and check it for operation. Read More...
