Brenda P. for Model Number MH7140XFB0 Appliance bulb. The microwave (21 years old) states to only use a 30W 120 volt replacement bulb. But when I search for the correct bulb to replace it - Whirlpool and this site pop up a 40w 130 volt bulb as the correct replacement. This does not sound safe to me - but what do I know?? Explanation? Thanks!
Answer Brenda, The 8206232A / 4393681 Exterior Light Bulb 40 Watt is the "factory authorized direct replacement part". The light bulb manufacturer has "upgraded" the production ratings to 130V 40W. However, the microwave will still only produce 120 VAC, and the actual operating wattage will be lower because of the lower AC voltage. The ratings are within the "basic" manufacturing specifications/tolerances (+/- 10-15%) so there shouldn't be any unsafe issues when you replace and install the new light bulbs. Thanks, Read More...
