Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Drive Motor (Part Number: OEM18019167)

Josephus, Looking at the motor from the front of the machine, the motor centrifugal switch should be rotated so the switch assembly is in the 1 or 2 O'clock position, " When reinstalling motor and exhaust assembly, be sure wire harness on right side is clipped to motor mounting bracket and is routed along dryer base (between motor mounting bracket and right side of cabinet." The ground wire will attach to the rear motor bracket with a 1/4 hex head self tapping screw. The other end of the wire will be attached to the hole in the motor casing to the right of the switch assembly. This motor position will keep the wiring away from the idler arm and pulley, which moves during the tumble action of the dryer and deter any damage to the wiring.

Frank, There are several things you have to check and ensure that they are installed correctly.Once the belt is installed, make sure the belt is properly routed around the idler and motor pulley, make sure the belt is not twisted or turned, this can cause a "bind" on the drive system. Also ensure the belt is on the flat, center portion of the tumbler If the belt is in one of the reinforncement grooves, theres not enough tension on the belt to drive the drum. It's best to install the belt, and manually turn the tumbler two or three revolutions by hand, then check for the before mentioned checks, then finish the re assembly of the dryer.
