Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Transmission Neutral Drain Kit (Part Number: OEM20512728)

1 Answer

Hello Sam, You will first need to verify nothing is in the drain pump or between the tubs. You will then need to check the brake and clutch assemblies for any damaged parts. This would need to precede the gearcase replacement since they could cause what might appear to be a gearcase issue.

Bob, It sounds like you may have gotten the neutral drain installed wrong and will want to double check installation. If everything is together properly then this would be a gearcase issue.

Whirlpool clothing washer, 31 yrs old: M# SAWS800JQ1 two questions ... 1) the spin at high revolution seems to have more wobble than before. what should I look for as the issue?? 2) just noticed a few Tbsp of water that leaked from underneath during the drain, spin cycle. what should I look to replace for that concern? new machines are stupid expensive and are getting less than stellar reviews, so may be far smarter to fix this old reliable beast. your suggestions are welcome.

1 Answer

Brigitte, check the drain pump to make sure there is not a leak around the shaft bearing, check the center post to see if the leak is coming from the gasket, You may be having a problem with the suspension pads that are worn out and causing a rough spin. Your washer is well made but is showing signs of wear, it will require a lot of work to get it back in shape.

Val Z for Model Number 110.26912691

My machine is making a loud noise once it begins the spin cycle. Also, it begins spinning before the water has actually drained. Based on all the research I've seen on the internet, the Transmission (Gearbox) #3360629 is bad. I know I can purchase one for $100.00+, however, I also see various Neutral Drain repair kits #388253 for way cheaper cost. Fixing things like this are fun and fairly easy for me, especially when I can save $100.00 or more. Question 1. Why is it that most sites don't seem to sell these Neutral Drain Kits? They only seem to sell the full transmissions. Question 2. What Neutral Drain kit part # would my Sears Kenmore Series 90 Model number 110.26912691 require? Thanks, Val

1 Answer

Val, For this issue it could be the neutral drain that is faulty but you would want to open the transmission to check for other broken parts that could be causing this issue.

Hello Eric. It almost sounds like something is in the pump. I would remove the pump from the motor and check to see if something is rubbing against the impeller in it. Thank you.

This unit stopped spinning, I replaced the clutch assy, did not help it, it acted like it was locked up, so I took the neutral drive transmission apart and check the gears in it. everything looked ok, but I moved the connecting rack, and don't know if I have got everything lined up right. I put it back together and it still would not spin, but with some help tipping it back we noticed the direct drive coupler was bad, so ordered a new one put it on . when I turned it on and it started to spin so I shut it down and when I tried it again it just hums. like it is locked up again. does it have to be hooked up to water supply to work properly.

John F for Model Number SE1000

When the washer stops the agitation cycle and goes into the spin cycle, the washer begins spinning and draining at he same time. This has caused us to reduce our load size because the motor seems to be straining more and more And is progressively getting worse. Heard something a neutral switch or arm could be the problem. How hard is this to repair? Am concerned it may be a transmission problem as well. Sure would hate to lose this washer. Best and most dependable I ever had.

1 Answer

John, If the washer is having a hard time getting up to speed then this would be more likely an issue with the motor on the unit.
