Secraven for Model Number whirlpool design 2000

I have an older washing machine and the agitator (this particular style is two parts) comes off during spin cycles. It will sometimes come loose during the wash cycle as well, especially with heavier loads of clothing. The top half of the agitator is what comes off. I took it apart and I believe the upper housing is supposed to contain a cam shaft with the dogs in it and that entire cam isn't there. I am curious as to whether buying this part will fix it or if i need to replace the entire agitator system including the base piece.
