The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is responsible for igniting the gas burner to produce heat, which is essential for baking and broiling. The igniter heats up to a high temperature and then sparks to ignite the gas, ensuring that the oven reaches and maintains the desired cooking temperature.

You should replace the oven igniter if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad igniter can include electrical failures, wear and tear from regular use, or damage from exposure to high temperatures. A malfunctioning igniter can prevent the oven from heating properly or at all.

Symptoms of a bad oven igniter include:

  • The oven not heating up or taking longer than usual to reach the desired temperature
  • The igniter glowing but failing to ignite the gas burner
  • No visible glow from the igniter when the oven is turned on
  • The oven producing a clicking sound without igniting

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM8804298)

Hello Ron, Check the breaker. Check for power at the receptacle. Check for the ignitor glowing. if the ignitor glows, check the amperage draw by placing the clamp on amp meter onto one of the wires going to the ignitor. This has to read 3.2 to 3.6 amps of current. If it doesn't, replace the ignitor WP9758079. If it does, replace the safety valve WPW10293048.

Bake, A weak igniter is the most common issue, when it pertains to erratic oven temperatures, etc. So replacing the igniter would be the most likely place to start. The APP part number for the igniter is 786324 and TJMA01166-1 ceramic wire nuts. That should get you up and running.

Larry, I agree with you every year is qa bit much, but, remember, the igniter itself is pretty fragile ans suseptible to vibration and bangs. If the igniter works, then becomes weak and won't open the safety valve, you need to look for a wiring issue, loose connection, proper polarity and voltage supply. If it is broken or cracked, you need to consider a usge or cleaning issue. Thanks and Good Luck
