Eric, Yes, for intermittent operation or nonfunctional keypads on the control panel, replacement of the 6-919839 control panel is necessary. The keypad circuits or the keypad ribbon tracers are deteriorated.

Patty, This issue would be more likely caused by the control panel rather than the drain pump of the unit.

Now I have no lights on the display. Initially the lights were flashing than would go out . There was no response when pressing the start button.I shut the breaker off in an attempt to check the start button with a meter but was unsuccessful trying to test a such a small ribbon wire. So I did a visual inspection of the control board and noticed there was a microchip that had looked melted so I changed it . Still No lights.. I do have power going into to control board and door switch does work.. I'm pretty confident that the control panel is faulty but could I be missing something?

This dishwasher is 3 years old. We have had the same panel-con "burn out" twice (about 1 per year). Whirlpool would not even discount the replacement part, even though we feel strongly that something must be defective. The rest of the unit works well and is in good condition. Do you think we should continue to replace this part or throw out the dishwasher and buy another brand? Whirlpool's customer service manager told me that she could do nothing for me with a $160.20 + tax + shipping (about $200.00). For added information, this panel-con peeled up on the corners on both touch pads and I seldomly if ever changed the settings using the buttons.

Hello Lisa! We would not be able to suggest a repair vs replacement of a product. This will be at your option. Things to look at for repair vs replacing is how many repairs, how much does a new unit cost, how much does a new part cost, etc. Thanks.

Hello Mark. If the ribbon cable is bad, some of the buttons on the keypad will not function properly. Hope this helps.
